    nvestment Objectives

onsider the following as you set your

    nvestment objectives:

ymetra True Variable Annuity (True VA) equips your investmentrofessional with a financial planning solution that may meet

    many of your investment objectives.

he risk o outliving your money or

aving to change your liestyleutliving your money in retirement may be your

reatest concern. You wonder i you will have

nough money in the uture to live in the style

    ouve grown accustomed.

Market volatilityne risk is that your portolio drops in value just as

ou retire or while youre taking income. True VA

ant eliminate market volatility, but it does provide

ou and your investment proessional with tools to

elp manage volatility in your portolio.

axess a variable annuity, True VA allows or tax-

eerred growth which can, over time, provide

or a larger account value. Keep in mind that aualied account such as an IRA already provides

ax deerral, so you should only consider True VA

or IRAs i the other benets are important to you.

Keeping up with inationIn order or your money to have the opportunit y to

grow, its important to consider the quality o the

    investment managers and overall diversication.

Although dive rsication does not ensure a prot

or guarantee against loss, True VA gives you

access to a wide selection o premier money

managers and asset classes to provide your

investment portolio a chance to beat infation and

    potentially grow over time.

Your legacyOver the long term, your hope i s that your

investments grow. In a variable annuity, i you

have a gain your beneciaries will have to pay

taxes on that growth. True VA oers a solution that

pays an enhancement at death to help cover part

o the tax burden. Its an optional benet that youcan select when you purchase the contract. It

carries an additional cost, but may be appropriate

i youre looking to deray some o the tax bill.

he mortality and expense charge (M&E) is the

as been set at a low annual rate o 0.60% o

ontract value as we pay no retail commissions.

Our sub-accounts only include institutional share

classes or our unds. Since our unds dont have

Rule 12b-1 ees, many investment options within

True VA have lower total expenses than the

shares o some retail mutual unds.2

rrently charged), were included in total expenses, True VA would still be in the lowest quartile o variable annuities. The comparison o total expenses

Total costs are calculated by adding the mortality and expense ee to the median und expense ratio or sub-accounts investing in both active and

passive underlying unds as o 12/31/11.

Rule 12b-1 ees, which range rom 0.10% 1.00% o a unds average daily net assets on an annual basis, are expenses borne by a mutual und or

sales and distribution and are reected in the unds expense ratio.

For a nonqualifed contract, a 10% ederal tax penalty may apply to withdrawals above the tax basis made by the owner beore the age o 59.

    Tax Deferral

axes a re an inevit able realit y of accumulating

ealth. Everyone who earns income is expected

pay their fair share in taxes. The drag

reated as the government takes its share along

e way leaves less money working for you

    ach year.

you have substantial holdings in tax-inefficient

ssets, you may benefit from an investment

True VA. What makes an investment tax-

efficient? One that delivers most or all of its

tal return in forms that are heavily taxed.

With True VA, all investment activity occurs within

a platform that defers taxation on interest income,

dividends or capital gains.1 You wont pay tax on

earnings when you transfer your contract value

from one sub-account to another, or when you

rebalance among sub-accounts to manage risk.

    Please consider your personal investment

    horizon and current/anticipated income tax

brackets when making an investment decision

as these unique factors will impact the results

    of this comparison.

When you eventually withdraw money, taxes will be due on investment gains at your ordinary income tax rate. Additionally, a 10% ederal tax penalty will

apply to withdrawals on gains made beore the age o 59.Hypothetical results are or illustrative purposes only and not intended to represent past perormance, or to predict the uture perormance o any

    specic investment.

The inormation is not complete and is not intended as tax advice. You should consult a tax advisor about the possibilities o tax law changes and your

    individual circumstances.

For this example, we have assumed that the reduction in marginal income tax rates, changes to the tax rate brackets, and the suspension o the phase-

out o personal exemption and itemized deductions or high-income taxpayers, originally enacted in the Economic Growth and Tax Relie Reconciliation

Act o 2001 a nd extended by the Tax Relie, Unemployment Ins urance Re authorizatio n, and Job Creation Act o 2010 through Dece mber 31, 2012, will

be extended throughout the timeline o this hypothetical example.

According to the Interna l Revenue Se rvice, the average st ate income tax ra te is 5%, rounded to the nea rest ull pe rcentage p oint.

The tax-deerred account does not refect the deduction o mortality and expense charges or investment option expenses which, i shown, would lower

perormance. The taxable account does not refect the deduction o ees, charges or expenses which, i shown, would likewise lower perormance.

In many cases, an investment with earnings that grow tax-deferred will create more value, af

    Automated Sell Strategies

    ehavioral fnance research confrms what

vestment proessionals have said or years: and hoc investment strategy is prone to emotional

ecisions made largely on the basis o ear, greed

nd trying to gain a sense o control during times

    market turmoil.2

ong-term success requires discipline and a

    ophisticated rebalancing strategy. Although the

rategy itsel cannot ensure a proft or guarantee

gainst a loss, this automated tool gives your

vestment proessional a way to implement sell

rategies based on your risk tolerance, or both

sing and alling markets. Depending on your

vestment proessionals service oering to you,

is may or may not be something he or she

    ould want to utilize.

et sell strategies based on your

    sk tolerance.

n optional tool to help manage risk.1

Normally, an investors risk tolerance is tied to

the overall investment portolio. You might sayyou are comortable with a portolio that goes

down 20% and up 40%. The problem is that

sometimes one or more o the investments

within the portolio goes down (or up) a lot

more than that. Your investment proessional

can now institute automated sell strategies

so you can put limits on the individual sub-

    accounts/asset classes in the portolio.

This is simila r to how mutual und manage rs

manage speciic stocks in their unds, and you

now have the option to manage risk in a similar

    ashion within True VA.
