You will find in this Standing Operating Procedure the requirements to get promoted in the Hornet BN.

Promotions can take place one of three ways.

1) The AI or SAI recommends you for promotion based on performance

2) Recommended by your Chain of Command

3) Application(s) accepted for an open position (you are interested in serving in this position)

Requirement #30 Cadet Drill: Cadet must march a minimum of 12 Cadets to the JPA standard.

A flag or marker placed directly opposite the reviewing stand or cadre team will designate the start

point for drill. The Cadet drill will assemble in a line formation at the designated start point facing the

reviewing stand or the cadre team; at a signal from the cadre team, the Cadets will perform the

following movements in sequence.

Requirement #32 Cadet Must be a LET 3 or 4 and serving as a Primary Staff NCO or Company Training

Officer.

Cadet First Sergeant Requirements 1-36

Requirement #33 Cadet First Sergeant must be capable of conducting in-ranks inspection of all cadets

assigned to their company.

IN-RANKS INSPECTION

To conduct in-ranks inspections, use the following procedures:

a. With the platoon in line formation, the platoon sergeant commands Count, OFF. On the command of

execution OFF, all personnel with the exception of the right flank personnel turn their head and eyes to


the right and the right flank personnel count off with "ONE." After the right flank soldiers have counted

their number, the soldiers to their left count off with the next higher number and simultaneously turn

their head and eyes to the front. All other members of the formation count off in the same manner until

the entire formation has counted off.

b. After the platoon has counted off, the platoon sergeant commands Open Ranks, MARCH. On the

command of execution MARCH, the front rank takes two steps forward, the second rank takes one step

forward, the third rank stands fast, and the fourth rank takes two steps backward. (If additional ranks

are present, the fifth rank takes four steps backward, and the sixth rank takes six steps backward.)

NOTE: After taking the prescribed number of steps, the men do not raise their arms. If the platoon

leader wants exact interval or alignment, he commands At Close Interval (At Double Interval), Dress

Right, DRESS.

c. At this point, the platoon is ready to be inspected. Typically, the squads are inspected by the squad

leaders; however they may be inspected by the platoon sergeant or platoon leader. (See paragraphs 7-

17 and 7-18 FM 3-21.5 .)

Cadet Battalion Administration Officer (S-1 — c/CPT)

– Principal staff officer for all matters concerning human resources including personnel readiness,

personnel services and headquarters management

– Provides administrative support for the battalion

– Prepares and maintains unit strength reports, rosters and records

– Plans, organizes and supervises the execution of battalion awards ceremonies, change of command

ceremonies, and social events

– Receives operational control of any special project committees as directed by the commander


Cadet Intelligence and Security Officer/ (S-2 — c/CPT)

– Supervises battalion physical security

– Provides weather updates

– Serves on event staff for planning and conducting battalion training event

– Responsible for all Cadet recruiting on the campuses in coordination with the cadre Recruiting

Operations Officer (ROO)

Cadet Battalion Training Officer (S-3 — c/MAJ)

– Principal staff officer responsible for all matters concerning training, operations and plans

– Plans, Organizes and supervises the conduct of all Cadet training

– Allocates resources to ensure the accomplishment of all missions

– Prepares Operations Orders, training schedules and memoranda to facilitate battalion training

and operations

– Ensures all battalion level classes and training are rehearsed by instructors and assistant

instructors prior to execution

– Serves on event staff for planning and conducting battalion training events

– Responsible for coordinating with Cadre for Training Calendar

Cadet Battalion Supply Officer (S-4 — c/CPT)

– Primary Staff Officer responsible for coordinating the logistics integration of supply, maintenance,

transportation and services for the battalion

– Coordinates for, receives, distributes and controls supplies and equipment for training

– Conducts inventories and maintains a continuous working knowledge of on hand supplies and

equipment within the battalion

– Responsible for early coordination with and serves as a link between Cadets and the cadre supply

technician,

-Serves on event staff for planning and conducting battalion training events

Cadet Battalion Public Affairs Officer (PAO/S-5 — c/CPT)

– Responsible for enhancing the relationship between corps of cadets and civilian authorities to include

campus staff and faculty, public information internal information, community relations, written

publications, photographs and related duties as required

– Specifically responsible for the written material, consolidation and publication of the battalion

newsletter

– Serves as a focal point for local advertising of the program

– Serves on event staff for planning and conducting battalion training events outside of tactical training

– Coordinates with S-4 and CSM to contact for catering for special events

– Responsible for fundraising events

Cadet Battalion Signal Officer (S-6 – c/CPT)

– Responsible for photo/video support for all Bn events

– Maintain and update the website, Facebook, and Twitter.
