Congratulations to Year 6 student Sam Smith who has organised a special day for Tweed Coast schools to support the Kids in Need Association Tweed Heads. The day known as KIN (Kids in Need) Day will raise much needed funds to support the important work that the Kids in Need Association do with children with serious illness and special needs.

As we have the Stage 3 Showcase tonight Lindisfarne will support KIN Day by holding a free dress (mufti) day on Tuesday 22 November for all students P – 12. Please remember to bring in a gold coin donation to support the Kids in Need Association.

Next week we will be holding a special retirement function to celebrate and recognise the considerable service to the Lindisfarne school community by Assistant Principal – Head of Pastoral Care, Meg Ayers and Director of English/History, Neville Erskine. The function will be held on Thursday 24 November from 4.00pm to 6.00pm in the Trades Skills Centre with entertainment by Brother Norton, fronted by Chelsea Redman.

Past students and parents are especially encouraged to join current parents and staff for this special occasion.

I am pleased to announce that Ms Carley O’Connell has been appointed as the Educational Psychologist for Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School as of January 2017. Ms O’Connell has previously worked at Lindisfarne as a highly regarded teacher in the Primary school.

Ms O’Connell has a Bachelor of Psychology Science with Honours and a Graduate Diploma of Education. Ms O’Connell is currently the Guidance Officer at Helensvale State High School, one of Queensland’s largest secondary schools where she is held in the highest regard as an exceptional practitioner. Ms O’Connell will bring considerable experience to her role across the P-12 range and will provide Educational Assessment and Counselling services at Lindisfarne.

As I write final preparations are underway for the Stage 3 Showcase to be held in Ngahriyah. Doors open at 5:45pm and the show commences at 6:30pm. The staff and students have worked incredibly hard to put together an exceptional show. All are welcome to attend.

On Saturday 26 November I am looking forward to joining the Class of 2006 as they hold an Alumni Reunion at The Ivory Hotel to celebrate their 10-year reunion. Members of the class of 2006 are encouraged to contact Sarah Wardrop - [email protected] if they have not already done so.

From The ChaplainOn Tuesday morning of this week, our Senior Choir travelled to the Tweed Civic Centre to offer their talents as a part of the Tweed Hospital’s annual Memorial Service. This service is organised by the hospital’s chaplaincy team for people who have lost a loved one during the year; especially though Palliative Care or the ICU.

Mr Stuart Marquardt, Mrs Meg Ayers, Mrs Cathy Myers and I attended along with Mrs Charlotte Lush and the choir. It was a very moving and emotional service, and our choir were exceptional. To say that we were proud of them doesn’t come close to expressing how we felt about their conduct and their contribution to the service. Our choir provided all of the music for the service, and many of the people who attended expressed their extreme appreciation.

Mrs Lush and I had a debrief with the choir once we returned to school. We talked about the process of grief and how important it is to acknowledge our grief, and to allow ourselves to grieve rather than running from it or trying to suppress it. We pointed out to them that through sharing their musical gifts and talents to this community event, they have helped facilitate the process of what is called “healthy grieving.”

Thank you Mrs Lush, and thank you choir! This event was a prime example of our calling to be a presence in our community, and to serve our local community. Our choir served our local community, and were wonderful representatives of the Lindisfarne community.

Rosemary Greenup Year 6 Teacher After more than 35 years of teaching, I guess you can say that I’ve never really left school.

I grew up in Tamworth and completed my teacher training in Armidale. My first teaching post was at Moree in North Western NSW, followed by stints at Kempsey South and Grafton Public School, all in Learning and Behavioural Support Units. My family and I were then fortunate enough to spend two years living on Lord Howe Island, a World Heritage site. When we left this idyllic existence we relocated to the Tweed.

I then joined the staff at Lindisfarne in 1999, firstly at the Sunshine Avenue Campus and then at the Mahers Lane Campus. It’s often said that Mrs Tracy Foyster and I are joined at the hip as we have shared most of those years together on a class. My three adult children attended Lindisfarne and have all gone onto tertiary studies in Law, the Police Force and Environmental Science/Marine Biology.

I love working with the students and particularly enjoy the daily interactions we have. One of the highlights of my time at Lindisfarne has been a trip to Borneo, accompanied by four other staff members and six of our students. We followed in the footsteps of the Australian Prisoners of War who died during the Sandakan Death Marches in 1945.

For the past few years I have worked three days a week and spend my leisure time in the garden and catching up with family and friends.

Kindergarten Transition SessionThis week the Preschool children who will be starting school next year, spent the morning in the Kindergarten classrooms. The Kindergarten students helped the Preschool children feel welcome and showed them some of the activities they do at Kindergarten.This transition time was a lovely chance for the children to get to know the Kindergarten teachers and become comfortable in the different environments.

The next transition day is on Wednesday 30 November, 9.00am-10.30am. All children are welcome to attend even if it is not their usual Preschool day.

Stage 3 NewsFollowing on from our Year 7 2017 Transition Day last week, we welcomed all Year 5 2017 students and their families to our Mahers Lane Campus on Wednesday. The day began with a Parent Information Session and a Chapel Service. Our current Year 5 students presented a welcome gift as part of the service. These students had worked hard to design and create beautiful pencil cases featuring the acronym S.T.A.R to represent the attributes of a Stage 3 student – supportive, trusting, appreciative and respectful. Students then went on a campus tour led by the Senior Leaders, collecting puzzle pieces along the way before spending time in Year 5 classrooms completing iPad activities and participating in a Q&A session. Thank you to all the students and families that attended and to the staff that made this day a successful component of our transition process.

Year 5 Water Sports the 5D experiences!For the past five weeks, Year 5 has been fortunate enough to participate in the Water Guru Water sports program in Kingscliff Creek on a Friday afternoon. We have enjoyed learning Aqua Zumba, Guru Ball, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. It is a great way to spend a Friday afternoon cooling off after an exhausting week. I personally enjoyed learning the fun game of Guru Ball. Eli Veldhoven.

The Year 5 Water Sports program was a great way to spend time as an entire grade having fun. Our team leaders were highly approachable and always joined in the fun and games with us. I found the Aqua Zumba very different to anything I had ever done before. Fredrick Watson.

I thought that the Water Sports afternoons were a great way for me to make friends because I have only just started at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School. It was great to get active and all of the activities were really energetic, I especially enjoyed being in the sunshine and water. Sasha Midgley.

Water Sports was a really fun way to spend time with people in Year 5 that you didn’t know very well. I really enjoyed kayaking because it was a fun way to look at people in a new perspective. Jedda MacLauchlan.




Secondary NewsYear 10 – ‘Survive’ SeminarOn Monday 21 November, Year 10 will spend the day working with Graham Hyman from Youth Specialties Australia on surviving techniques for the senior years, relationships and life. The program has a strong practical orientation. Through each theme students will be confronted with issues they need to consider and provided with practical and helpful ideas they might like to use. They will be facilitated to create their own responses to both the issues raised and the ideas presented. By the end of the day students will be better equipped to deal with many of the issues they will face as late adolescents.

Year 11 RRisk Reduce Risk Increase Student Knowledge Student Seminar – Friday 25 NovemberRRISK is a health promotion program that addresses risk taking behaviour amongst Year 11 students in NSW. First developed in 1999, the RRISK program has grown rapidly in response to demand, initially involving 300 students from nine high schools and now attracting over 4900 students from 58 schools across northern NSW from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie. RRISK is a resilience building program that is relevant to the social life, developmental stage and concerns of adolescents.

Adolescent risk taking associated with alcohol, drugs, driving and celebrating resulted in an unacceptably high level of injury and trauma. Young people are over represented in every category of risk taking behaviour resulting in injury.

RRISK includes keynote presenters from Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia and the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority).

RRISK not only educates young people about road risks but helps them adopt safer behaviours by providing them with practical skills and strategies to manage risks across many aspects of their social lives by addressing binge drinking and drug use, safe partying and encouraging them to look after their friends.

Throughout the year, students in Years 11 and 12 have been volunteering to donate blood for the first time at various mobile blood donation vans around Tweed and Coolangatta. Each time they donate blood they save three lives!




CAPA NewsK-4 Performing Arts ConcertStudents at Sunshine Avenue involved in the Dance Ensemble, Sunshine Avenue Rock Band, String Ensemble and Choir will be performing in a concert on Wednesday 23 November at the Sunshine Avenue Campus commencing at 4.00pm. The concert provides an opportunity for students to perform in a semi-formal environment for an authentic audience and should conclude at 5.00pm. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you in advance for your continued support of the Performing Arts.

Performers in the Dance Ensemble, Sunshine Avenue Rock Band and Choir are required to assemble at 3:30pm in the middle room of the Year 4 rooms. String students are to meet Mrs Lewis in the music room so that instruments can be tuned.

Operation Christmas ChildAt the start of Term 4, House Tutor Groups, Cuthbert 6 and Barnabas 4, both contributed to “Operation Christmas Child” an initiative of the organisation Samaritan’s Purse. Over the years, 150 countries have experienced God’s unconditional love as they received Operation Christmas Child boxes.

Between the two tutor groups, 11 Christmas boxes were filled with gifts and necessities for children in developing countries. The boxes are for kids in need, regardless of their background or religious belief. The boxes symbolise the gift of love, which tells the child receiving it that someone in the world is thinking of them on Christmas day and they have not been forgotten.

It meant a lot to the students of CU6 and BA4, knowing that they had helped fill a child’s Christmas day with joy. It was nice to imagine that in some far away isolated village a child who has never received a gift of any kind, let alone a Christmas gift will be opening the boxes we prepared in tutor group time. Sports NewsDodgeball Years 7-9 friends have made their own teams to enjoy games of dodgeball at lunchtimes over the last two weeks. The grand final will be played on Friday, with results appearing in the next newsletter. The Years 10 and 11 competition will commence the week beginning November 28.

Year 7 PDHPE DayOn 30 November, the Year 7 students will participate in their PDHPE day. All of the activities relate to units of work studied this term. Josh Fuller and the In2Surf team will explain safety considerations in the sun and surf. Students will then be able to learn or improve their surfing skills. The Water Sports Guru team will be informing the students on how to have safe fun in the creek, including stand-up paddle-boarding and kayaking.

CricketThe senior boys cricket team played The Armidale School for their Round 2 match of the Douglas Shield on Thursday. A convincing performance from the boys was lead with Conor McDowell’s captain’s innings of 171 not out. Lindisfarne batted first and scored 10/293 in their 48 overs. Coffs Harbour Christian Community School declared at 7/84 (22 overs) so the boys won by 209 runs.
