The Center for Transportation Infrastructure and Safety (CTIS), a National University Transportation Center at Missouri S&T, is uniquely positioned to offer significant opportunities to individuals interested in solving critical national transportation issues. Interdisciplinary research and educational opportunities are available to pursue doctoral degrees in:

CENTER FOR TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE

AND SAFETY

CTIS will support activities relating to its mission and the theme areas of Advanced materials, Transition-state fuel vehicle infrastructure and Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technologies and methods.

While proposals in the theme areas are encouraged, all transportation related proposals will be considered for funding, particularly those related to the stated goals and needs of State DOTs, and MoDOT in particular, specifically:

•Innovative research in operations,materials, design, safety, security, policy, management, finance and economic development as it relates to the transport of people and goods in all modes

•Education of future transportation professionals

•Transfer of research results into practice

The Missouri S&T-NUTC’s Center for Transportation Infrastructure and Safety was named as one of the 10 National UTCs in the Transportation Reauthorization Bill Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFE-TEA-LU) signed by President Bush on August 10, 2005.

According to SAFE-TEA-LU:

The role of each center shall be to advance significant transportation research on critical national transportation issues and to expand the workforce of transportation professionals.
