Dear Friends,

The 2013-2014 fiscal year was an eventful time for Larimer County and United Way. From flood response efforts to launching new partnerships, our community has shown what it truly means to LIVE UNITED.

When historic flooding hit Larimer County in September 2013, United Way was an engaged partner in the response and recovery efforts. United Way 2-1-1 answered thousands of calls from people needing to get help and those wanting to give help. We mobilized hundreds of volunteers and raised more than $2.1 million to help local families and communities recover from the devastating natural disaster.

The spring of 2014 was an important milestone in achieving our goal of reduced poverty and increased prosperity for Larimer County. We launched the Community Impact Plan version 2.0, which outlines refined strategies and objectives to drive long-term, community-wide change across Larimer County. We welcomed 67 Community Impact Partners, including nonprofits, school districts, governmental organizations, and community groups, who are committed working collectively in new and innovative ways to improve more lives.

These concrete examples of people coming together to strengthen our community should inspire us all. And every member of our United Way family, including our donors, volunteers, and Community Impact Partners, should be proud of the role they play in making such successful efforts happen. As you read through this annual report, you will see many other ways we are able to achieve impressive results and improve lives with your support.

United Way believes that everyone has a role in building a better future for all. We invite all community members to help us shape community-wide change. We are inspired by your participation and will continue to tackle the underlying causes of complex problems across Larimer County and create pathways to long-term prosperity for our community.

On behalf of all of us at United Way of Larimer County, thank you for standing with us to strengthen our community.

With gratitude,

Nick Christensen

Chair, Board of Directors

Gordan Thibedeau

WHERE THE MONEY GOES...Meet Casey. Casey is a child who wants to succeed. All he needs is an opportunity.

Hi!

United Way brings the community together to lift up thousands of “Caseys” across Larimer County. We focus on EDUCATION, INCOME, and HEALTH – the building blocks for a better life.

LET’S GO!

2+2=

WE ALL WIN!

A GOOD EARLY EDUCATION PUTS CASEY ON THE RIGHT PATH.

One-on-one tutoring through Colorado Reading Corps helps struggling readers get back on track.

B CA

CASEY’S FAMILY GETS HELP TO STAY IN THEIR HOME.

United Way 2-1-1 connects local families with community services and resources to address immediate needs, including rent and utility assistance.

BE READY CAMPAIGN HELPS LOCAL CHILDREN GET STRONG START In August 2013, BE READY, a

component of United Way’s Smart

Start for Kids initiative, officially

launched its public awareness

campaign throughout Larimer County. BE READY is focused on helping

all children in Larimer County get their best possible start in school by

being healthy, getting along with others, and being ready to learn – all

which set children up for future success in school and life. More than

40 partners across the community have helped to reach thousands of

Larimer County families with this important message. More information at

www.BeReadyLarimerCounty.org.

UNITED WAY 2-1-1 SERVES CRUCIAL ROLE IN FLOOD RESPONSEWhen the historic flooding hit Larimer

County in 2013, United Way 2-1-1 played

a crucial role in connecting people with

how to get help and give help. 2-1-1 was

officially activated by Larimer County

emergency response officials to assist with disaster response efforts.

Throughout the month of September 2013, 2-1-1 fielded more than 1,200

flood-related inquires assisted the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office with

recording 476 unaccounted-for persons reports, provided in-person

service to more than 400 people at the Disaster Recovery Center,

distributed thousands of Relief & Recovery Guides, and registered nearly

100 homes for debris clean-up efforts.

LONG-TERM RECOVERY GROUP HELPS LOCAL FAMILIES REGAIN STABILITY AFTER DISASTER

Donors from all across the country rallied

to support the long-term recovery of

families impacted by the devastating

flood of September 2013. United Way

helped with the formation of the Larimer

County Long-Term Recovery Group, a

multi-agency collaborative that provides

recovery resources and case management to flood survivors. United

Way of Larimer County serves as the fiscal agent of the Long-Term

Recovery Fund, which has collected more than $1 million to support local

individuals and families as they rebuild their homes and lives.

SMALL BUSINESS RECOVERY FUND HELPS LOCAL BUSINESSES RECOVER FROM FLOOD DAMAGEIn late 2013, United Way teamed up with the Richardson Foundation and Blue Ocean

Enterprises to create the innovative Small Business Recovery Fund. The fund was

established to help small businesses in Larimer County recover from the devastating

floods, and specifically save jobs and restore the vitality of our community.

Bohemian Foundation initiated and seeded the fund with $250,000, and Blue Ocean

and Richardson Foundation provided a dollar-for-dollar match up to $500,000 for

other businesses to contribute to the fund. After three rounds of grant funding,

the Small Business Recovery Fund provided more than $1.17 million in grants to 42 Larimer County small
