Initial Call from DEE MARTINEZ

On 081611 at approximately 1400 hours I received a call from a female who identified herself as DEE MARTINEZ, Deputy Director of Human Services. Ms. MARTINEZ called Larimer County Sheriff's office front desk asking tospeak to the Sheriff or a representative. I asked Ms. MARTINEZ what this call was in reference to. She stated that she had received a threatening E-mail directed at the Sheriff's Office. Ms. MARTINEZ stated that the E-mail wasfrom a GREG LEVERETT stating "that he was meeting with Sheriff SMITH at 0930 hours on 081611 and it couldget ugly and we might have to shoot it out with the Sheriff." I put her on hold and contacted CAROL DOWNING.

Officer's Actions

I advised CAROL DOWNING of the call that I had on hold. I stated to CAROL that the caller had received athreatening E-mail concerning the Sheriff's Office. CAROL DOWNING said the Sheriff was in a command staffmeeting and I should direct the caller to Sergeant HARKIN. I then got back on the telephone with Ms. MARTINEZand told her that I was transferring her to Sergeant HARKIN and if he was not in, to leave a detailed message and he would call her back.

Instruction from Sergeant BERGLUND

Upon notification of this telephone call, Sergeant BERGLUND instructed me to contact DEE MARTINEZ to getfurther information regarding the E-mails since Sergeant HARKIN was out of town for the day. I got the contactinformation for DEE MARTINEZ and left her a telephone message.

Call Back From DEE MARTINEZ

On 081611 at approximately 1700 hours. Ms. MARTINEZ returned my call. Ms. MARTINEZ said that she hadbeen forwarded E-mail from PAM RYKIN who was the committee chair for Colorado Department of HumanReport Officer

LARIMER COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICENarrativeResources. The E-mail were written by a GREG LEVERETT and were in reference to Larimer CountyCommissioner, STEVE JOHNSON. Ms. MARTINEZ became concerned with one E-mail in particular that madeaccusations against Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Mr. LEVERETT stated in the E-mail that "he was meetingwith Sheriff SMITH on 081611 at 0930 hours, if things get ugly we might have to shoot it out with the Sheriff."

I had previously spoken to Sergeant STEWART who advised me to have Ms. MARTINEZ forward all E-mails tohim for review. No further action was take by this deputy.

The E-mail dated 081511 (forwarded E-mail #4 of#5) contained a paragraph, indicated by stars, that was threatening to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Thewords in the paragraph stated: "I would like someone to go with me for back up, if things turn ugly and we have toshoot our way out. Its at 9:30 a.m. Let me know."
