TransAlta CorporationTransAlta USA is a subsidiary of TransAlta Corporation based in Alberta, Canada. TransAlta began as a small, local power company in 1909 and has grown over the last century to include power plants in Canada, the United States and Australia. With over $2 billion in annual revenue, over 2,600 employees and more than $9 billion in assets, we are Canada’s largest publicly traded generator and marketer of electricity and renewable power.

Partnering for Energy SolutionsEarly in 2011, TransAlta USA reached an historic collaborative agreement with environmental organizations, legislators and labor groups to transition away from coal at the Centralia, WA 1,340 MW coal plant. This agreement allows for:

• Orderly phase-out of coal generation with one of the two coal units retiring in 2020 and the last in 2025

• Protection of jobs and the local economy with a fund set aside to assist with the transition

• Creation of an Energy Technology Fund to create energy, air quality, haze and other environmental benefi ts for the State of Washington

• TransAlta’s further growth through a plan to construct a large-scale natural gas plant at the existing Centralia site
