Tuckahoe University

• Primary Purpose - The primary purpose for this project is to provide members the resources for personal growth.

• Brief Description - Tuckahoe University is a one-day school for Jaycees and non-Jaycees to attend different training and informational sessions. We will provide seven areas of opportunities for people to attend. These include: Resume Building, Easy gift Ideas, Party Planning, Plumbing for the rest of us, Decorating, Business Etiquette and Cooking 101. This event will take place on Sunday, November 7, 2004 from 2 pm to 5 pm. It will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Richmond, Virginia. It is our hope to run this project twice during the year and offer classes that meet the needs of the members based on feedback and information collected in a survey earlier in the year.

Tuckahoe University: Impact

• Individual Impact: Those that attended Tuckahoe University had the opportunity to learn new things, learn skills and information that will help them both personally and professionally. They also had the opportunity to meet new people…fellow Jaycees. There was also the opportunity for personal and professional networking.

• Chapter Impact: The Tuckahoe Jaycees benefited because we ran a project that a variety of people attended. It was a project that was looked upon in a very positive nature by the State Board. It was stated that the State Board is interested in running something similar on a state level within the next year.

• Community Impact: The impact on the community by this project is in an indirect manner. All of those that attended learned many new things that they can in turn share with others that they know. Through the sharing with others the community will be positively influenced.

Page 24: United States Junior Chamber Individual Area of Opportunity Annual Meeting 2005 Boston, MA, USA

Year End Installation Banquet: Impact

Impact on Individual Members: The project rewarded members for all the hard work they’ve done this year. Project Chairs were recognized by the Vice Presidents for their dedication to our projects. Members were reminded that their efforts, big or small, help our chapter, and that we appreciate them all. Sixteen members were given awards, which was a result of their dedication to the chapter.

Impact on Community: When you recognize people for their hard work and dedication to the community it only encourages them and others to continue to work for their cause. The true reward is not receiving a plaque or certificate, but rather the reward of witnessing the difference each of us makes in our community with each project we run.

Page 27: United States Junior Chamber Individual Area of Opportunity Annual Meeting 2005 Boston, MA, USA

Year End Installation Banquet: Recommendations

• In order to make this event more affordable for all of our members; the Chapter subsidized the cost of the Banquet tickets. Lowering the price for both events to $25, or just the dance for the cost of $15.00. There is an additional $5 fee for guests. This encouraged more members to attend than in the past.

• Reserve your location EARLY! A Saturday night for the party is preferable, but those are the first nights to fill up at banquet halls.  Also, if have the event at a hotel, negotiate with them to get a room or suite at a discount rate.

• Line up a photographer (chapter member who has a good quality camera) to do “formal” pictures at the banquet. Group pictures of the incoming and outgoing VPs and Boards are nice to have for mementos, as well as for the Jaycee archives. Start asking chapter members for pictures for the slide show in early November.
