Confessional poetry (自白诗)    A poem that reveals a poet's intimate personal feelings and sufferings.

Protest poetry (抗议诗)     A poem that registers protest against ideas, actions or people.

Satirical poetry (讽刺诗)    A poem written to make fun of people or of various form of human weakness.

按诗歌 Forms (内容形式)划分: Sonnet( 十四行诗) : usually 14 lines long and has to hav

e a particular rhyme scheme.Shakespearian sonnet: abab cdcd efef gg

Ballad( 民谣) :A long poem telling a story usually a tragic story based on a historical incident.

Visual poetry (象形诗): A verse form in which the shape represents the meaning.

Free verse ( 自由诗 ) : A verse form which is not subject to metrical or rhyming constraints.

Blank verse  (素体诗 ): A five-stress iambic verse which is unrhymed.

Quatrain (四行诗) :simply a four-line stanza

Haiku (俳句) : not required to rhyme,it must contain 3 lines with line 1 having 5 syllables, line2 seven syllables, line 3 five syllables

Cinquain (五行诗) :a poem with just 5 lines, two syllables in line 1, four in line2, six in line 3. eight in line 4, and two again in line 5.

Free Verse:

1. It needs to have a strong theme-to say

something worth saying.

2. It needs to be written in highly charged. often figurative, and expressive language.

3. It may compensate for lack of formal feature by using such as assonance, alliteration, internal rhyme, repetition.

4. It has to ‘flow’, so that the reader is carried along with the emotional charge of the poet.
