The annual Christmas ball given by the Assembly Club, always one of the most important, social affairs of the Vulctide season, was held in the auditorium of the Masonic, temple Friday night and was one of great beauty and brilliancy. Christmas greens and Christmas flowers decorated not only the ball room but the reception rooms where guests were grouped at, intermission between dances. Tall stately palms, potted plants and ferns intermingled with crimson blossoms formed an artistic hedge on the stage where the orchestra was stationed and formed a pleasing background for the patronesses. Mrs. iLynn -S. Hornor, Mrs. Edward R. Davis. Mrs. Albert W. Rapp, Mrs Robert A. Haynes. Mrs. William A. Gaylord. Mrs. Boyd Hornor and Mrs. Peter H. Koblegard. received the thariv guests. The galleries, which ".i+v. -VtilAftriA rleco- I were unmttui. ** *.»*. rations of wreaths of scarlet and green were occupied with guests who enjoyed looking on the gay scene below. Promptly at 0 o'clock Parker's colored orchestra of Oolumbus, O.; sounded the keynote for the dance. The ball room doors were thrown open and a brilliant program of dance music of twenty numbers was enjoyed by the many guests in attendance, composed of many out of town visitors, the college boys and girls home for the holidays, numerous brides of the autumn season, a number of charming debutantes who were making their first bow to society, all forming a brilliant scene O in charming costumes of beauty and ^ simplicity. A delicious salad supper was served in the dining room at 11 o'clock by an efficient corps of waiters and later dancing was resumed in the ball room until 2 o'clock. The board of governors, Messrs. T,vnn S. Hornor, president; John M. Newlon, vice president, and Henry C. Alexander, secretary-treasurer, was untiring in its efforts to make this the Christmas dance quite the most brilliant assembly of the season, and it certainly succeeded, its efforts were not in vain. Nearly 300 guests were present including the following out of town visitors: Mrs. Sprigg D. Camden and Mrs. Hal M. King have issued cards for a reception for Methodists of the community to be held at 7:30 o'clock Monday evening at the First Methodist Episcopal church. The reception is being given in order that the 1,500 members of the church may get better acquainted and also that the many Methodists and their friends scattered about Clarksburg as well as recent arrivals and strangers may know that the First church extends them a warm welcome and wants them to attend and get acquainted. It has been impossible to get the names of all Methodists in Clarksburg so all, are asked to attend whether a card is received, renew oid acquaintances and make new ones.
