PSTC is well known for their “Customer Service the 911 Way” class. This special “Spirit to Serve” course takes service to the next step. We borrow the term “spirit to serve” from the Marriott Hotel Corporation. We also love the concept of Disney’s “on stage – off stage” mindset. What do these organizations have in common? Service and staff empowerment are key to their success.

How do those of us in the 9-1-1 and emergency communications profession encourage people to have a spirit to serve? For protocol driven agencies using prod-ucts like Priority Dispatch and other systems, how do you stay protocol compliant and still offer sincere and vital customer service? We will show ways of taking the “robotic voice” out of any call taker and blend pre-arrival compliance with spectacular service delivery!

Have you ever attended a class that is filled with negative examples? We are very proud to say that this class is evenly balanced with mistakes as examples blended with many positive examples and demonstrations of great service. Students will walk away with positive examples of a spirit to serve.

Let the PSTC team demonstrate ideas of employee driven service while maintaining information gathering, professionalism, policy compliance, complacency avoidance, risk management and instilling true service while they lis-ten to the caller rather than just hear the caller. This class is tailor made for anyone from line-level to management. Everyone will walk away with tools you can use and ideas to improve quality assurance scores if you have a Q program. With or without Q, students will improve customer satisfaction with both internal and external customers.

This class addresses a personal “mind set” or an individual commitment to quality service. We don’t want 9-1-1 and emergency communicators to provide service be-cause they are told to provide it. We would rather they want to deliver the wow to calls for service. After all, we are far from “just a dispatcher”.

An additional segment of the class is a thought process of a “let’s move forward” mantra rather than bad habits that perpetuate bad service. Do any of these sound familiar: slamming the phone and loudly sharing how “dumb” a caller is, picking up a phone and being sarcastic because the caller is a “frequent flyer”, not following pol-icy since “we’ve gotten a dozen calls on that” or dismissing a caller just because “they have no idea where they are”? We will show students effective ways of managing their issues of call complacency or repetitive call dismissal.

Give PSTC a chance to salute your great people with a re-affirmation of their outstanding service while we also provide a gentle reminder or an effective tune-up to those that have lost their way…or never had a true “spirit to serve” to begin with. You will love the results of our inspiring and education filled “spirit to serve” class. Students will leave with new tools and with an invigorated energy.

Since 1982, Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates, Inc. (WZ) has trained over 200,000 law enforcement professionals. The WZ Seminar on Criminal Interview & Interrogation ties the interpretation of verbal and physical behavior into a structured approach of interview and interrogation.

This course is unique in that it provides training in multiple techniques of interview and interrogation, including the WZ Non-Confrontational Method, Behavioral Interviews and the Reid Method*. The WZ Non-Confrontational Method is a structured, conversational approach that often results in an admission (or multiple admissions) without the suspect ever making a denial or protesting their innocence. Moreover, the resulting legally-acceptable confession often includes information not revealed during the investigation.

• Room Setting & Preparation • Legal Aspects • Theme Development • Handling Explanatory Denials • Enticement Questions

• WZ Non-Confrontational Method • Behavioral Analysis Interview • The Reid Method* • Development of the Admission • Interpretation of Verbal & Physical Behavior

There is more than one way to interrogate a suspect. If a person is trained in multiple methods, they have the ability to use the technique most appropriate for the type of case and individual they are interviewing.

* WZ is licensed by John E. Reid and Associates, Inc. (Reid), originator and developer of the Reid Method. WZ was licensed by Reid in 1984. Since that time, the extensive updates for this seminar, including the WZ Method of Non-Confrontational Interview & Interrogation, have been developed by WZ using the latest information from legal, psychological and interrogation

research.

Mr. Marsano is an internationally recognized expert in Behavioral Analysis Interviewing, Interrogation and Statement Analysis Techniques, and is a regular featured presenter at fraud conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada. A former police officer and detective, he has worked as a consultant to numerous law enforcement agencies on unresolved homicide cases and been a consultant to John Reid and Associates in the development of a Telephone Interviewing Techniques program. Mr. Marsano has authored numerous published papers and articles on the subjects including the book, “In Search of Truth…An Analytical Approach to the Interview Process.” COURSE DESCRIPTION: The ability to conduct a thorough and comprehensive interview is the most important skill any investigator needs. The morning portion of the day will provide a firm foundation for extracting maximum information during the interview process, while also exploring proven methods for the detection of deception and/or missing information. Is your department fully prepared to handle an "Officer Involved Shooting"? If you don't have policies, procedures, a shooting review team and investigators that are trained in these types of incidents, then you as administrators, supervisors, investigators and trainers are exposing yourself and your agency to unnecessary liability. This course is designed to identify areas in your department that need improvement when dealing with officer involved shootings. Because....It's not a matter of IF it's going to happen at your department, but WHEN. The course is instructed by Chief James Carmody (Wyoming, MI, Police Department), and Lt. Joseph Platzer (Port Huron, MI, Police Department). Lt. Platzer has personally been involved in O.I.S. and is an experience trainer and SWAT Team leader. Chief Carmody is a 40-year police veteran with experience in investigating O.I.S. and preparing policies and procedures to properly investigate those incidents.

This all new PSTC class focuses on leadership issues for all levels of emergency communications centers. The class was first presented at the NAVI-GATOR 2013 International Conference where it sold out and the course re-ceived overwhelming reviews.

The class helps students learn the key traits of a successful leader and ways to ensure that you can achieve a level of leadership that co-workers will appreciate and respect. The perfect student for this course is a current lead, supervisor, manager, director, trainer, training manager or line level staff mem-ber that strives to be a future leader. Existing “leaders” are strongly encouraged to attend so they can evaluate their best traits and set goal to be more effective.

Sadly, many agencies promote or hire Supervisors but never guide or train them to be true leaders. That sets the scene for the replication of bad habits, no su-pervisory skill sets and a loss of respect from the “troops”. This class gets your team in the mindset of leadership with tools that can be used immediately.

Topics included in this class are:

-Building a foundation of trust

-Mission and Purpose – affirming the mission

-Demonstrating a commitment to excellence

-Recruiting, training and keeping the best people

-Motivating staff and remediating poor performance

-Lead by Example – what does that really mean?

-Building Alliances – Building Bridges – Building Respect

-Effective communications styles (both written and verbal)

-Empowering individuals and teams

-How to lead by example and gain faithful followers

-Knowing and adapting to your team

-Understanding the generational divide – Gen X & Y success!

-Measuring success and learning from failure

-Mentorship in the workplace

-Having and communicating key values

During these trying times, we need to remember the importance of our membership in a noble profession. Regardless of what is going on politically and economically, warriors continue to be courageous, selfless, and pay the ultimate sacrifice for our communities. We fight the good fight, no matter what! At times like this, it is hard to remember that since the beginning of time warriors have performed during times of adversity and hardship. It is the privilege of being in the company of warriors who have protected those who can't protect themselves for hundreds of years. The course is instructed by Chief Neal A. Rossow (retired), a 36-year law enforcement professional and police trainer. Chief Rossow has a no-nonsense approach and keeps his classes lively, open and engaging.
