Facing global challenges through leadership innovation

Complex, devastating and far reaching events continue to challenge our leaders and tax our existing resources.Whether it is climate change, the global economic crisis, HIV/AIDS or poverty, the world looks to the UN for leadershipin tackling multifaceted global problems. But is the UN sufficiently equipped to address all these issues with their complexities? To do so, the UN needs to have leaders from across the system who are creative, effective and inspired communicators, bridge builders and problem solvers.

How can the UN System Staff College help? The UN System Staff College (UNSSC) has developed a strategic leadership course, new in scope andperspective, new in inspiration and creativity and new in terms of inter-agency co-operation and relevance.A UN inter-agency reference group has helped the College carefully select a creative and talentedfaculty to design a focused, inspirational and action-oriented leadership programme.

Course content includes: leadership and inter-agency collaboration, problem solvingin crisis situations, inspiring direct reports, followership, innovation, adaptive leadershipand developing and honing each participant’s unique leadership style-while deepeningtheir knowledge on global priorities.

Leadership in practiceIn collaboration with leaders in fields as wide as industry, music and haute cuisine,we offer a distinctive practical programme in which leadership is reflected, discussed, tested and applied in a safe learning environment.
