Paying for College Nearly every student is eligible to obtain some form of financial aid to assist with the cost of education. There are two types: merit-based aid (scholarships) and aid based on need.

Scholarships All applicants are automatically considered for scholarships - there is no need for a separate application or essay. Applicants who are residents of states that are members of the Western Undergraduate Exchange program for reduced tuition are also automatically considered for the WUE scholarship. Those states are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

Need-Based Aid UM awards need-based aid using the Department of Education criteria for award levels. To be considered for need-based aid, including student and parent loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

For the most up-to-date estimated direct cost, visit admissions.umt.edu/costs

Go Griz

UNIVERSITY TOWN, MISSOULA, MTWith about 70,000 people, Missoula has the sophistication and attractions of a bigger city while keeping its small-town feel and laid-back style. Whatever your thing is – strolling, shopping, festival-going, coffee-drinking, music-listening or theater-going – you will find it in Missoula.

When two UM alumni meet anywhere in the world, we open our conversation with a simple “Go Griz.”

12

Griz Nation! There’s a great sense of loyalty and pride among Grizzlies. We bleed maroon, and this spirit can be witnessed at campus events like Griz games, plays, music concerts, lectures and at local businesses and events around town.

Whether you choose to live in a residence hall or a university apartment only a few blocks from campus, getting to campus and meeting new people is easy. UM has a variety of campus living options that are convenient, safe and, most all, fun. Get to know people with similar interests or those who are completely different.

Griz SpiritGrizzlies have a spirit of adventure, innovation and ingenuity that can’t be matched. Western Montana is a hub of adventure and outdoor exploration in all seasons. Or maybe your gravitational pull will come from our local music scene, theater, festivals, art galleries or a Griz game.
