About your program

l Sessions. The Transfer NSO program has both required and “conference style” sessions, allowing you to tailor much of your program to best meet your needs. Included will be sessions about academic and career planning, IU Bloomington resources and services, Bloomington, Getting Involved, and more. Then you will meet one-on-one with an academic advisor to plan your course schedule and register for classes.

l Placement Exams. IU Bloomington requires that most transfer students take a math placement exam and a foreign language placement exam. Both are offered online and must be taken prior to your NSO program. Your confirmation will provide details, a link, and any exemption options.

l Travel. You can start making your travel plans as soon as you have your NSO email confirmation. Prior to your program date, and after May 20, we’ll mail you a packet with final information and your temporary parking permit.

Make Your Reservation TodayWe can’t wait to introduce you to Hoosier life at New Student Orientation (NSO). We offer several date options just for transfer students.

1. Log in to your personalized FY(Me) page at fye.indiana.edu. Follow the instructions. Be sure to update your profile and provide an email address for your parent or guardian.

2. Read your online confirmation very carefully and share it with your family. It includes:

• Information about your required exams.

• Instructions for other tasks you MUST complete before NSO.

• Details about travel, parking, meals, and what to expect.

3. Watch your email for updates and reminders about your program.

We urge you to attend NSO during June or July. It’s the best way to register for classes and prepare for your first year at IU Bloomington. If you can’t come in the summer, you will attend the late August program, just prior to Welcome Week. Look for more information on your FY(Me) page.

Orientation FeesThe $149 NSO student fee, which supports Welcome Week and FYE programming throughout the year, will be included with your first IU tuition bill. The parent/guest NSO fee is $20 for one person ($10 for each additional guest) and includes one set of NSO materials. Lunch is provided for you and your paid guest(s). At check-in, you can add guest fees to your IU bill.

Your To-Do ListNew Student Orientation is just one of the things you need to get ready for the transition to IU Bloomington. We can help you organize the rest, including applying for housing and financial aid, setting up your IU email, completing forms, and exploring online resources. Keep your to-do list updated on your FY(Me) page. Be sure to check your IU email often—many offices will send important information to that address.

For details about schedules, testing, travel, and more, see the NSO web pages at fye.indiana.edu. Be sure to follow us on Twitter (@iufye), and like us on Facebook (facebook.com/iufye). We have important and exciting information to share.

NSO Is Just the BeginningTake a look at the other ways we help make your first year a great one:

l IUBeginnings. What better way to bond with other new students than by embarking on a five-day adventure together? Learn more at fye.indiana.edu/orientation/iubeginnings.

l Welcome Week. Job fairs, open houses, CultureFest, Transfer Student Welcome—the days before fall classes start are filled with helpful, fun, and informative IU traditions. Check it out at fye.indiana.edu/orientation/welcome-week.

l First Year Programs. We’re here for you all year long. For information about events, academic resources, and parent and student newsletters see fye.indiana.edu/programs-events.

l Transfer Student Support. We will keep you connected with opportunities just for Transfer Students, including Tau Sigma, the national transfer student academic honor society, local events, and more.

FYE supports the optimal first year experience: self-exploration, cultural understanding, academic commitment, community membership, and leadership growth. We will help you to EXPLORE the many opportunities awaiting you, to find a place where you BELONG, and to SUCCEED in your first year and beyond.

Program for GuestsParents and family members are an important part of your IU experience and we offer sessions just for them during your NSO program. Some sessions you can even attend together. They’ll get tips for helping you make the transition to IU Bloomington and learn about the resources, programs, and support in place for your success.

Disability AssistanceIf you or a guest will need accommodations for a disability or mobility concern during NSO, please let us know when you place your reservation. We will contact you to help you make arrangements.

What to ExpectNew Student Orientation (NSO) for transfer students is a required one-day program. (note: students transferring directly into the Jacobs School of Music will attend a two-day NSO program with other freshmen and transfer students) It will help you become familiar with campus and the services, processes, and opportunities here. You will meet with an academic advisor and register for your first semester. You will also be able to meet other new and current students and see the campus a bit. Make your reservation now for the most date options.
