basic information, terms and conditions and
sharing experiences on how to prepare a
teaching grant proposal for course- and
program-based levels for University of
Malaya’s Learning Improvement and Teaching
Enhancement Research (UM-LiTeR)grant.
INTRODUCTION
ObjectiveTo provide UM lecturers with funding to conduct research on improving and enhancing Learning and Teaching practices in their own classrooms, courses, and/or programs.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. UM-LiTeR Grant application is open to all academic staff of University of Malaya (permanent and contract).
2. Researcher is allowed to lead only ONE (1) UM-LiTeRresearch project at any one time until the research end.
3. Academic staff currently in sabbatical leave are not allowed to apply or become member of a research group.
4. Visiting academic staff are not allowed to lead but can become member of a research group.
5. Principal Investigators (PIs) of UM-LiTeR 2016/2017/2018 are not allowed to lead but can become member of a research group.
Timeline
Tips to be successful
1. Have knowledge and exposure in modules relating to improving teaching and learning practices through training by ADeC or any other training providers.
2. Understanding of the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) is helpful to guide on meeting grant’s objectives.
3. Have clear & measurable research questions that are synced with research objectives and methods of data collection.
4. State clear research impacts towards improvement of learning /teaching/course/programme etc.
5. Provide new ideas and improvement efforts on T&L.
6. Produce tangible outputs such as:
• New pedagogical approaches to teach your course;
• Application of current technologies for teaching;
• New assessment methods e.g. rubrics to assess your
students’ learning;
• New ways of supporting students’ learning’
7. Well-documented study – replicable.
