The Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) engineering team at API Technol-ogies partner with international corporations, military organizations, and government entities to design, integrate, test, and troubleshoot UAVs. Whether you are looking for a partner to develop a specific UAV capability or someone to deliver a complete Unmanned Air System (UAS) -- the API UAV team has the flexibility needed to handle any size project.

The UAV engineering specialists at API come from both military and avionic/aeronautic backgrounds with expertise in: mechanical design, electrical/electronic design, composite mold design, pay-load design and integration, RF design and testing, user interface design, and avionics/sensor integration.

API also manufactures many of the components and subsystems used in both manned and unmanned systems around the world, including: power supplies, RF amplifiers, antennas, low-pass filters, multi-section filters, power filters, filter plates, SMPS capacitors, film capacitors, and speciality connectors. The company also partners on several unmanned ground control system projects to supply rug-gedized laptops and servers, secure communications, EMI filters and power distribution panels.

Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVAPI and developmental partners engineered and modified an existing long-range piloted aircraft for unmanned flight. • Designed and integrated power and control systems. • Designed, integrated, and tested landing gear. • Provided test flight support.

UAV Sensor PayloadAPI engineers partnered with commercial and government entities to develop and launch a weapon capable micro-UAV from a surrogate Tier II UAS. • Designed, developed and tested ground and air based percussion and pneumatic launch systems. • Developed performance and capability requirements, design constraints, integration and test. • Modified fuze design to conform to the required arming environments and physical function/footprints.

Sonotube-launched UAVAPI teamed with a leading aerospace company to develop the systems to launch a small UAV from a C-130 (supporting ISR) in order to increase the mili-tary’s ability to detect and identify ground targets. • Developed and integrated a modular EO/IR payload. • Produced RF link configuration design requirements/ specifications. • UAV and engineering support for pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight testing and demonstration.

UAV Infrared CameraOptimized day/night optical payload targeting by analyzing end-to-end system latency for improvements from sensor to target. • Integrated and tested electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) payload system for performance. • Developed design requirements based on the end-to-end budget, configuration, and system test of the RF data link. • Reduced latency of autopilot-control software. • Produced onboard visual processing design specifications for initial proof of concept.

UAV AGIG SystemWorking with several partners, API assisted in the development of an Airborne Global Information Grid (AGIG) system prototype to receive live video signals from UAVs and transmit them to the GCS. • Fabrication, integration and bench test. • Troubleshooting/build process documentation. • Technical Data Package (TDP).

The UAV engineering team at API Technologies has partnered on many projects spanning from design, integration, and testing to complete UAV/UAS prototype delivery. The follow-ing are examples of how API is partnering with other engineering companies to advance unmanned systems to meet customers’ mission requirements.
