Do you know the….. ……..two basic principles of golf There are two principles that underlie all of golf and they are play the course as you find it and put your ball in play at the start of the hole, play your own ball and do not touch it until you lift it from the hole. All of the Rules of Golf are built around these two principles. Play the course as you find it is established in Rule 13 which firmly says a player must not improve or allow to be improved the position or lie of their ball, the area of intended stance or swing, the line of play or a reasonable extension of that line beyond the hole, or the area in which a drop or placement of ball is to be taken. Actions that would cause this include pressing a club on the ground, moving bending or breaking anything growing or fixed, creating or eliminating irregularities of surface, and removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, re- placed divots in your line of play if not on the putting surface. (You can find further information on Rule 13 in the USGA Rules) Building up your stance is definitely a prohibited action. Be wary of an opponent with a step stool in their cart!

……..two basic principles of golf There are two principles that underlie all of golf and they are play the course as

you find it and put your ball in play at the start of the hole, play your own

ball and do not touch it until you lift it from the hole. All of the Rules of

Golf are built around these two principles.

Play the course as you find it is established in Rule 13 which firmly says a

player must not improve or allow to be improved the position or lie of their ball,

the area of intended stance or swing, the line of play or a reasonable extension

of that line beyond the hole, or the area in which a drop or placement of ball is

to be taken.

Actions that would cause this include pressing a club on the ground, moving

bending or breaking anything growing or fixed, creating or eliminating

irregularities of surface, and removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, re-

placed divots in your line of play if not on the putting surface.

(You can find further information

on Rule 13 in the USGA Rules)

Building up your

stance is definitely

a prohibited action.

Be wary of an

opponent with a

step stool in their

cart!
