Whether you’re awake or asleep- your brain enables you to think, process information from your senses, feel emotions, learn, create, remember, generate ideas, move, react, breathe and blink… it sends more messages in one day than all the phones in the world at speeds of over 300 kph! Want to learn how the brilliant brain works, how to improve yours or even how to trick it?

FASCINATING FORENSICS Yr 3&4 Ever wondered how a scientist can become a super sleuth? Immerse yourself in the intriguing world of forensic science including a CSI workshop, DNA extractions, fingerprinting, and other amazing crime solving techniques.

PROGRAMMING PRODIGIES Yr 3&4Interested in programming? Want to create the next great computer game? Explore programming tools and algorithms in the Scratch language developed by computer engineers at MIT. As its founders say, programming enables kids “to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively”. All equipment supplied.

MAGICAL MINECRAFT Yr 5&6Learn how to use the ‘python’ programming language to create structures and features within the Minecraft environment. Learn about variables, loops and conditionals, then be connected to a special Minecraft server which runs the python code and translates that code into wonderful 3D structures. Note - this is a programming workshop, not simply playing Minecraft!

MARVELLOUS MOVIE MAKING Yr 5&6Loved the Lego Movie? Ever imagined yourself as the next big thing in Hollywood? Produce a DVD of your own animated movie, starring a cast of Lego mini-figures. Shoot the action using the latest software and create your own soundtrack.

MORE Tuesday 27th September 2016 - DAY 1 Workshops

ACTOR’S ACADEMY Yr 5&6This workshop is a terrific way for students to take their performing skills to the next level. Our coach will draw from their NIDA acting training to engage the students through improvisation, theatre sports and character development. The workshop will introduce the students to theatrical terminology and conventions, laying the foundations of stage craft and a sound performance technique. This advanced workshop is for the performer who takes their craft seriously and who is ready to be challenged in a fun supportive environment.

CREATIVE CODING Yr 1&2 Ever day-dreamed about creating your own computer game? Exploring basic programming tools and algorithms, Thinkers will create computer games in the Scratch Programming & Learning Environment. Developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Scratch is an entertaining way to teach children to write computer programs. All equipment supplied.

MATHEMATICAL MADNESS Yr 1&2 A fun-filled day of games, puzzles, problems and challenges to unleash your inner genius! Do you love shapes, patterns, numbers and all things mathematical? If so, you’ll definitely enjoy this action packed day of mathematical madness!

EARLY ENGINEERS Yr 1&2 Why do some things float and others sink? What shapes allow you to build the biggest buildings? Discover the answer to these questions and much more in a great day of engineering feats!

CHESS CHAMPS Yr 1-3 Under the guidance of an experienced coach, Thinkers will learn the fundamentals of chess and the skills to confidently play ‘The game of kings’! They will receive instruction in the rules and proceed to develop tactics and checkmating patterns. There will be plenty of time for friendly games to practice the techniques learned and explore variations of this enduring game of strategy.

CLAYMATION CREATIONS Yr 3&4 Love ‘Wallace and Gromit’ or ‘Shaun the Sheep’? Try your hand at making your own Claymation film. Using the stopmotion / claymation process, Thinkers will story board, animate, edit and finally burn their movie onto a DVD. All material is provided. Have fun unleashing your creativity, honing your writing skills and exploring the technology behind Claymation Creations!

GROSS HUMAN BODY Yr 3&4 Learn about the complexity of the human body and use microscopes and hands-on models to look at the incredible workings of the major body systems that sustain your life. Discover how the five senses work and explore many of the bodies gunky substances such as blood, snot, vomit and pus in this hands-on biological workshop. Not for the faint hearted...but so much fun!

MAGNIFICENT MACHINES Yr 3&4 Using LEGO NXT and EV3 Mindstorms robotics, children will learn to build and program machines that can perform a variety of entertaining and increasingly more challenging tasks. Activities include Olympic athlete, Sumo battles, and Wacky races. Suitable for beginners and intermediate levels of robotics experience.

ZANY ZOOKEEPERS Yr 4-6 Have you ever dreamed of spending a day caring for REAL Australian reptiles, frogs, invertebrates, omnivores, herbivores, carnivores and ectothermic animals?
