    Introduction

Welcome to issue 2.8 of our Marine Cables catalog.

Tricab has been pioneering and re-defining cable technologies for over 30 years. The cables within this

catalog represent a milestone for the marine industry as they combine the highest technical performance,

outstanding flexibility, reduced weight and user-friendliness.

All cables now include a high strength ripcord under all jackets, For easy and safe stripping of cable. This also

applies to larger sized insulated conductors.

Tricab Marine Cables conform to major international standards including IEC and IEEE and carry approvals

from ABS, LR, DNV, BV, NATO, USCG, TC NAVSEA.

Our cables are used globally across a broad range of platforms, including Navy and Defense Vessels, Fast

Ferries, Commercial and Work Boats, Tankers, Passenger Liners, and Megayachts.

We have now fully established our state of the art manufacturing facility in Massachusetts. This enables us to

provide you with the highest possible service levels, and ensures reliable supply for your project

    requirements.

We hope that you find our latest issue of real value, and we look forward to working together in the future.

    Features and Benefits

Fine Copper Stranding - Tricab uses very finecopper wire for all conductors, in accordancewith ASTM B3-01, ASTM B33-00 and IEC60228.

Round Concentric Cores - Tricab exclusivelymanufactures round cores throughout itsentire size range, and does not use sectorialconductors.

Lightweight - Tricab has developed specific

product ranges that have reduced weight.

Small OD - Tricab has developed specificproduct ranges that have reduced OD's.

Flexible Construction - Tricab uses acombination of fine conductors, specialcompounds and manufacturing processes toproduce a very flexible cable.

Foot marking - All Tricab cables are foot-markedas standard, with a descending number (metremarking also available).

Product marking - Tricab offers personalizedtext messages printed onto the cable at regularintervals, even for short lengths.

    F E A T U R E S B E N E F I T S

Provides quick and efficient removal of any length of jacket orinsulation without the risk of damage to underlying components.

Eliminates the risk of injury from using razor knives or blades.

Significantly increased flexibility has numerous practical benefits, including reduced installation time and easier cable handing.

These benefits translate directly into reduced installation time andcost. Fine stranded conductors also offer improved performanceand reliability when subjected to vibration.

Standard lugs, terminals and connectors can be used, saving installation time, inventory and cost - also providing betterelectrical contact with standard round lugs.

Especially relevant to high speed craft, where weight saving

translates into improved performance and overall cost benefits.

Additional cables can be installed within a specified cable tray, ladder or conduit. A smaller bending radius benefits tight configurations, and smaller glands reduce cost.

Reduced installation time and cost, improved bending radius andsafer cable handling (especially larger sizes).

Assists the installation process and enables accurate stockmanagement.

Project Reference Codes, Company Name, Part Numbers, Quality Data,Marketing Information etc. can all be clearly marked.

Ripcord - Tricab includes a high strength ripcordunder all bedding and overall jackets, and under

the insulation on 10mm2 and larger conductors.

Make to order facility- Tricab can manufacture cablesexactly to customer specifications.

Global distribution - Tricab operates its own network of

company offices and warehouses worldwide. We currently

have operations in the Pacific, Asia, the Middle East, Europe

and North America.Research & development - Tricab maintains a very active

R&D programme, working very closely with our sales team

and customers. In conjunction with our in-house

laboratory, we are continually improving cable performance.

Quick response - Tricab has invested in manpower,

machinery and materials to provide a short leadtime

    manufacturing capability.

Reliable long-term partner - Tricab has been supplying

innovative cable solutions since 1978. We believe in long

term partnerships and have a solid track record of

    successfully completed projects worldwide.

Approvals - Tricab maintains approvals from numerous

certification bodies, including LR, DNV, ABS, BV, UL, CSA. If

required, we also obtain specific case approval.

Quality accreditation - Tricab operates an accredited

Quality system in accordance with ISO 9001:2008, both

within our manufacturing plant and our global offices and

    warehouses.

No need for the user to compromise or accept analternative cable. Customers receive exactly what theyneed.

We support customer projects wherever they may be,streamlining logistics, increasing supply reliability andsaving time and money.

New cable technologies are introduced to our customers onan ongoing basis.

When cable is needed urgently, either due to an emergencyor unexpected contingency, Tricab has the systems in placeto fast-track the manufacturing process, reducingdowntime and saving time and money.

We believe that satisfied customers are our strength andwe do everything in our power to ensure that we bothgrow and prosper over the long term.

Reliable certification simplifies the task for procurementand engineering, saving time and money. It also allowscables left over from one project to be used for futureprojects.

We continually improve our quality performance, whichin turn provides improved products and services to ourcustomers.

    LSZH

LSZH simply translates to Low Smoke Zero Halogen and refers to the behavior of

chemical compounds when combusted - specifically the quantity of smoke generated

and the toxicity of the emissions. Tricab uses only materials generating less than 0.5%

    HCL emissions

    Halogens - What are they?

Halogens are a group of five elements comprising; Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine

    and Astatine.

Halogens - and the effect of combustion

In their basic form, Halogens are very toxic, strong oxidizers and very chemically

reactive. In the event of combustion, LSZH and non LSZH cables behave in very

    different ways, as indicated below.

What is the difference between LSZH and non LSZH cables?

LSZH cables have a zero Halogen content, emit no toxic fumes, generate very little smoke and produce no corrosive orcaustic acids. LSZH cables are therefore ideally suited for all marine applications where personnel safety and protectionof valuable equipment are of paramount importance.

Non LSZH cables, or Halogenated Cables, are typically manufacturedfrom thermoplastic compounds, such as PVC. On combustion, thesecompounds generate highly toxic fumes that cause severe irritation tothe eyes, nose, mouth, throat and lungs. Increased concentrations areconsidered fatal to humans.

They also generate large volumes of dense black smoke that blocksvisibility and severely disrupts evacuation procedures. The smoke andfumes can also lead to suffocation from smoke inhalation. A one metrelength of burning cable that contains 0.85Kg of PVC will completelyobscure a room of 1000m3 with black toxic smoke in less than fiveminutes.

When combusted, Halogens combine with moisture to formHydrochloric Acid. This extremely corrosive acid is potentially deadlyto humans and always causes extensive property damage. Acids of thisnature aggressively attack electrical switchboards, motors, fixtures, furnishings, floor coverings, paint surfaces etc. In many cases theeffects of acid corrosion after a fire are much more severe than theactual fire damage itself.
