Business Travel News 2009 Business Travel Survey From BTNonline – June 2010

As the recession took hold in 2008, travel management companies found themselves on rocky footing, battling the effects of stark transaction and sales volume drops that accelerated throughout the year. Last year also saw agencies responding to vigorous account activity as corporations looked to optimize financial arrangements, speed TMC implementation times and receive more timely accurate data and reporting.

In the earlier part of 2008, some agency consolidation did occur. Tzell Travel Group made the largest M&A moves by far by merging with the Travel Acquisitions Group and creating new corporate travel units under Travel Leaders Corporate. The activity included the acquisition of 13 agencies and the opening of a London office, which added $150 million in air volume to the company’s performance.

According to Travel Leaders Corporate president David Holyoke, the division has garnered $72 million in new business in March and April and is projected to surpass $100 million in 2010.
