During this tutorial, you will complete your foldable inside your notebook, and you will

identify the five different angle pairs that are created by a

transversal.

Recap: Labeling Lines & Angles

Lines are identified by two points on the line, or by a single lowercase script letter.

line j, line k, line t

Angles are identified by the three points that are used to create the angle, the vertex point, or by a number.

∠1, ∠2, ∠3, ∠4, ∠5, ∠6, ∠7, ∠8

line t is the transversal between line j and line k(A transversal is a line that intersects at least two other lines.)

Color your transversal line

RED.

Angle PairsA transversal line creates five different angle pairs. The five angle pairs are:

Corresponding AnglesAlternate Interior AnglesAlternate Exterior AnglesSame Side Interior AnglesSame Side Exterior Angles

You will create a Color Key.(Pick any 5 colors, not red or yellow.)



Interior Vs. ExteriorA transversal line creates two different regions: an interior region and an exterior region.

Color the interior region YELLOW. You will still need to see those numbers, so color lightly or around them. Inside you will write INTERIOR.

On the outside, you will write EXTERIOR.

Corresponding AnglesKeep these questions in mind as we work through labeling the corresponding angles.

What do you think is meant by Corresponding angles? Which angle pairs are Corresponding angles?

Corresponding angles are on the same side of the transversal line, one angle is on the interior and one angle is on the exterior. Mark them in BLUE.
