Component 1: Training & Development

Learners should be able to:

1.1 Discuss and define training and the training function.

1.2 Identify the main components of the training cycle.

1.3

Identify and analyse training needs, break down and analyse jobs and tasks,

identify specific skills and competencies to fulfil these jobs.

1.4

Plan training to meet identified needs, and draw conclusions from the needs

analysis to apply to the training plan.

1.5 Implement and deliver training.

1.6 Assess the learning/training.

1.7 Evaluate training events.

1.8

Know and comprehend the purpose of the National Qualifications Framework

and the functions of the NQAI, FETAC and HETAC.

1.9

Know and comprehend the NFQ grid of level indicators 1 – 6 and their use in

designing a training programme.

1.10 Be aware of the process of Quality Assurance with respect to training.

Component 2: Learning Outcomes

Learners should be able to:

2.1 Distinguish between the terms Knowledge, Skill and Competence for

programmes/courses leading to an award on the National Qualifications

Framework.

2.2 Write overall course learning outcomes in terms of Knowledge, Skill and

Competence for programmes/courses leading to an award on the National

Qualifications Framework.

2.3 Write the component learning outcomes (in terms of Knowledge, Skill and

Competence, as appropriate) for programmes / modules leading to an award on

the National Qualifications Framework.

2.4 Be aware of the programme/course/module validation process and the quality

assurance responsibility of the trainer.

2.5 Validate/ pilot the training design.

Component 3: Learner Profiles

Learners should be able to:

3.1

Know and understand that learners differ in terms of intellectual and physical

abilities and in terms of their prior learning.

3.2

Know and understand socialisation, cultural, linguistic and equality issues that

may apply to learning.

3.3

Prepare a learner profile specifying minimum abilities and prerequisite learning

together with a strategy for dealing with mixed ability learners

3.4

Be aware of the support systems available to learners with particular learning

difficulties (e.g. Dyslexia, Sight or Hearing difficulties)

Component 4: The Learning Process

Learners should be able to:

4.1 Demonstrate knowledge of the psychology of learning and the application of

this to the training programme.

4.2 Demonstrate in particular, knowledge of adult experiential learning and the

need for active learning contracts.

4.3 Demonstrate appreciation of the fact that learners have different learning styles

and preferences and not all learners learn in the same way.

4.4. Foster learning

4.5 Describe a learning styles model and incorporate an appreciation of varied

learning styles inthe training programme so that learners with different styles

are catered for.

4.6 Know and comprehend motivation theory and display an understanding of the

factors that motivate learners.

4.7 Demonstrate knowledge of the sources of information available to learners.

Component 5: Training Programme Preparation

Learners should be able to:

5.1 Plan a training programme including, for example, the following:

Scope and Structure of the training indicating the training approach as

well as details of the content to be covered

Target learner profile.

The timetable and duration of different elements.

The training objectives in terms of learning outcomes.

The outline of training method or approach

The proposed assessment and evaluation procedures.

5.2 Prepare to facilitate/instruct.

5.3 Create and maintain a learner centred environment

5.4 Create and maintain a hospitable learning environment.

5.5 Plan the use of the media and technology to enhance learning.

5.6 Select and modify existing instructional materials.

5.7 Behave ethically.

Component 6: Communication, Feedback & Interpersonal Skills

Learners should be able to:

6.1 Display a basic understanding of communication theory, two way

communication and interaction and incorporate this into the training event.

6.2 Check for understanding, the asking of probing questions and the promotion of

discussion.

6.3 Demonstrate an ability to listen.

6.4 Display in their teaching an understanding of learners limited capacity to attend

to and absorb information.

6.5 Understand, use and apply interpersonal skills in the delivery and

communication of training.

6.6 Deliver feedback in a constructive non-personal manner. Understand the benefits

of constructive/positive modes of feedback and to deliver feedback in a manner

that encourages learner self-evaluation and improvement.

Component 7: Training Support Systems

Learners should be able to:

7.1 Select appropriate training aids and provide a rationale for their choice.

7.2 Emphasise the preparation and design of effective visual aids, use of

blackboards/whiteboards, flip charts, data projectors and other relevant display

systems.

7.3 Select other methods of learning such as E-learning and Blended Learning

where appropriate and describe how these may be used effectively by the

learner.

7.4 Select and use appropriate information and communication technology (ICT) to

support learning.

Component 8: Classroom & Presentation Skills

Learners should be able to:

8.1 Prepare a lesson plan and organise the delivery of the information in a logically

structured manner.

8.2 Deliver a lesson, making effective use of voice, eye contact, interaction, and

check for understanding, physical positioning.

8.3 Prepare and deliver an effective demonstration with appropriate physical

positioning, use of equipment, interaction and manage practise by learners if

possible.

8.4 Facilitate group sessions and promote participation by learners in group

discussions.

8.5 Facilitate learning using E-tutoring where appropriate.

Component 9: Training Methods

Learners should be able to:

9.1

Know and comprehend the merits and drawbacks of a variety of training

methods, e.g. Technology based learning, Project based learning, Use of case

studies, Role play exercises, Buzz groups, Syndicate groups. (list not

exhaustive)

9.2

Select appropriate methods or mix of these methods in a training situation and

provide a rationale for such.

9.3

Know and demonstrate appropriate aspects of Health and Safety of the training

method used.

Component 10: Statutory Compliance Issues

Learners should be aware of:

10.1 The statutory Health and Safety acts and their impact on different forms of

training

10.2 The statutory Equality Legislation and its impact on recruitment and training

and the keeping of records.

10.3 Appropriate standards and legislative requirements in relation to copyright and

intellectual property and its impact on the use of references, course materials,

(including film, music, books, and other learning materials) and promote good

practice in their use.

10.4 The need to comply with established Legal, Quality Assurance and Ethical

standards in the delivery of training programmes.

Component 11: Evaluation & Assessment Methods

Learners should be able to:

11.1 Know and comprehend different methods of assessment.

11.2 Design or select and implement appropriate assessment processes for the

training given. (written examinations, case study responses, project briefs,

continuous assessment techniques)

11.3 Know and comprehend the place of evaluation within the training cycle in

relation to the rationale, frequency and impact on the learner.

11.4 Know and comprehend the process of writing test questions/briefs and the

preparation of model answers (e.g. use of Bloom’s taxonomy)

11.5 Know and comprehend the process of programme/course/module evaluation

and learner satisfaction.

Course Duration: 5 Days Classroom based

4 Days Research, Project Work & Home study

Dates: This course is available on a regular basis. Please contact

CMD for the next available dates.

Cost: €890.00

The cost includes the following:

1. Course material

2. Fetac registration

3. Fetac certification

4. Fetac external validation

5. 5 days classroom tuition

6. Ongoing support while on programme

7. Tea, coffee and lunch daily while in class

8. Mentoring /coaching of 2 hours per learner

Please Note: Where learners are grant aided to attend the programme the

balance of the programme cost is payable by the learner direct

to CMD. The funding agency will normally pay CMD directly

any grant aid awarded to the learner. A letter of confirmation

must be presented prior to starting the programme.

This programme meets the requirement of the

National Trainers Register for inclusion on the panel

of trainers.
