stoornissen in het gebruik van alcohol: levens-
en jaarprevalentie in de bevolking
respectievelijk 13% en 4%.
Het aantal verslaafden aan illegale middelen
(drugs): levensprevalentie in de bevolking 6%,
punt prevalentie ongeveer 1%
Roken (levensprevalentie in de bevolking 22%)
de belangrijkste oorzaak van voortijdige sterfte.
In 2001 was roken verantwoordelijk voor
ongeveer 14% van alle sterfgevallen.

Lancet;
Regelmatige cannabis gebruikers die stoppen na eerste psychose laagste risico op herval. Regelmatige gebruikers minstens maandelijks verhoogd risico.
>> Dosis-respons relatie pleit voor causaliteit !
Hoogste risico zij die dagelijks hoog geconcentreerde cannabis – skunk-type.
Na controle confounders en multiple comp. Had deze groep nog een 1.9 maal verhoogd risico op herval vergeleken met de groep die gestopt was.
De grootte orde van dit effect ligt in de buurt van de effectiviteit van antipsychotica bij het vermijden van herval (2.4 risico vermindering).
Gezien geen behandelingen momenteel voor cannabis co-morbiditeit (althans farmacologisch) valt te overwegen om deze dagelijkse gebruikers te adviseren over te gaan naar minder geconcentreerde vormen van cannabis.
