The school review will conclude today. The review plays an important part in how the department supports school improvement and provides schools with independent feedback, tailored to their context and needs. Principals use review findings to work with the school community to develop clear actions to move the school forward and strategies to maximise student outcomes. Junior School Playground Update The main structure has been erected. Currently the roof is being lined. It is anticipated concreting will commence, followed by the soft fall. The playground should be fully operable in the coming weeks. Gate Fobs An access control system operated with a fob was installed during the holiday break on all internal gates on walkways and entrances to playgrounds. This will be an added security measure to ensure the safety of our students. Students arriving or departing during class times will need to enter or exit via the administration front office with assistance from staff. T Block Stage 1 of construction of our new building, T block, is expected to commence in June/July of this year with anticipated completion during Term 1, 2022. Contract Transport – Important Reminder Parents and carers of students approved for contract transport (Bus/Taxi) are reminded of the responsibilities to be fulfilled for the continuation of transport arrangements. This includes that a responsible adult (parent/carer over the age of 18) is ready and waiting with the student in the morning to meet the transport driver at the specified time and place AND be waiting at home in the afternoon on return of students from school. If there is no one waiting at home to receive student in the afternoon, contractors are directed to take the student to the nearest police station. Please remember to contact Ron at Detours – 4728 5311 or Tanya at Townsville Taxi – 0408 321 255 if you need to cancel your pick up in the morning. Class Times A reminder that learning starts at 8.30AM each morning. Please ensure you drop off your child to school between 8.15AM and 8.30AM at the Burt Street entry. Staff are available to assist students to class at this time. Burt Street gates and the Thompson Street pedestrian access will be closed at 8.30AM. Community Resource Unit (CRU) is providing a series of School to Work Workshops aimed to help

secondary students with disability find meaningful work. These workshops will be of interest to parents thinking about future work for their family member with disability who is in secondary school.

Hear and Say has a couple of Parent Education sessions coming to Townsville in May, and they may be of interest to some of our parents/carers. Parent information session intensive – Townsville

Fourth year occupational therapy and physiotherapy students from James Cook University will share their knowledge across two information sessions for parents. These sessions have been designed for our families in North Queensland impacted by hearing loss and are to be held in-person only at our Townsville centre.

Date: Monday, 24 May 2021

9.30am – 10.25am: Mealtimes and Fussy Eaters : This session aims to give parents a toolbox of ideas to help take the stress out of mealtimes and gain an understanding food likes and dislikes.

10.35am – 11.30am: Moving and Growing – Motor Skills Development : This session focuses on gross motor development and milestones, and provides useful tips for take encouraging movement in play at home.

Sunset Series - Sunset Series brings together professionals from across the medical and allied health sectors, together with families and the community, to network and share knowledge.
