Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney film
Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three gentleman vie for her attention, Frollo also embarks on mission to destroy the gypsies – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.
Starring in the challenging role of Quasimodo is Jeremy Reasoner (Million Dollar Quartet, The Little
Mermaid). His attention is focused on the entrancing Esmeralda, taken by Blakelee Cannon (The Addams Family, Shrek the Musical) and Sheldon Paschal (Million Dollar Quartet, The Addams Family). The deceptive Dom Claude Frollo is being portrayed by George Dinsmore (Spamalot; The Buddy Holly Story) with Captain Phoebus in the hands of Town Theatre newcomer, and choir master for this production, Augie Gil. The king of the gypsies, Clopin, is being played by Will Moreau (My Fair Lady, Annie Get Your Gun).
A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.

It’s that time of year ~ time to celebrate! Please join us for the opening night celebration of Town Theatre’s 99th season. The Board of Governors invites you to meet us just outside of the theatre after the curtain falls on Friday, September 22. Opening night ticket holders can join the cast and crew for a catered reception. After spending the evening in France, you’re sure to enjoy the trip back to Columbia, SC with some of our favorite restaurants (and one of our favorite chefs!) for bringing us delicious goodies. Our thanks to Tio’s Mexican Cafe, Lizard’s Thicket, Zoës Kitchen and Sandra Willis for their support. And, of course, we could not do it without our friends at NBSC. Come celebrate with a glass of champagne as we toast our 99th!
Our summer show, Willy Wonka, was a scrumptious treat for all who came to see. AND ~ what an even better way to end the run than with our gift of $3,300 to Feeding Children Everywhere. Beginning with our WONKAville event, continuing with our silent auction and concluding with selling Wonka Bars, we had a great time giving back to our community. The funds provided through our show will be used to support LOCAL hunger efforts.
We are thrilled to receive notification of funding from many of our partners ~ the City of Columbia, Richland County, the SC Arts Commission and Colonial Life. The city and county grants allow us to focus additional attention on marketing our shows; the SC Arts
Commission grant provides general operating assistance and the Colonial Life funds are focused toward our youth theatre programming. Thank you to our funders!
And, last, but certainly not least, we were honored to receive various awards this summer. The South Carolina Theatre Association awarded Town with the Theatre of Distinction award. Free Times voters named our production of A Christmas Carol: The Musical as runner up for Best Production and Town was named runner up for Best Theatre. Thank you!
