English In English we will be learning about the story ‘The Magic Finger’ by Roald Dahl. We will be exploring the setting, plot and characters in the story through drama and retelling activities. This will lead into us planning and writing diary entries, information pages and stories. Maths In Maths this half term, we will be learning to solve addition and subtraction word problems. After this we will explore simple multiplication by making equal groups and counting them. Towards the end of the term we will be looking at grouping and sharing equally as strategies for dividing numbers. Dear Parents, Welcome back after the half term break! In English we will be learning about the story ‘The Magic Finger’ by Roald Dahl. We will be exploring the setting, plot and characters in

the story through drama and retelling activities. This will lead into us planning and writing diary entries, information pages and

stories.

Reminders • Make sure that children bring

their PE kits on Monday and leave them at school until Friday. This is just in case P.E times or days are changed.

• For P.E, children must have jogging bottoms, shorts, t-shirt, trainers/plimsolls. Please name all items of clothing and the bag.

• Children must not wear jewellery as it could cause injury during PE and play. Earrings must only be studs, not hooped or ‘dangly’ earrings.

• Note that school starts at 8.50am.

• School uniform is compulsory: white Heronsgate t-shirt; navy blue sweater or cardigan; black, grey or navy trousers; sensible, flat black shoes or black trainers, NOT brightly coloured trainers. Boots are not allowed.

Home Learning • We encourage you to read with your

child every day for 5 to 10 minutes and make comments in their blue Reading Champions books. Books will be changed two or three times a week.

• Spelling homework will be given out on Tuesday, and it is to be brought back by the following Wednesday.

• Talk to your child about… - Toys that you used to play

with when you were a child - Similarities and differences

between toys in the past to toys in the present

• Discuss different types of plants. How do they look? What are they called? How do they smell?

• Other places to visit: Museum of Childhood – Bethnal Green, Pollock’s Toy Museum – Central London

E-Safety Talk to your child about how the Internet can be used to find information- you can use it to find out about pretty much anything! Explain to your child that it can sometimes be dangerous and we need to make sure we know how to stay safe on the Internet.
