TOMORROW’S
DIGITAL AGENDA SMOOTH OPERATIONS
“The changes unleashed by the
Fourth Industrial Revolution are
so profound that, from the
perspective of human history,
there has never been a time of
greater promise or potential peril.”
Klaus Schwab
Founder and Executive Chairman,
World Economic Forum
Digital revolution is transforming many aspects of business & society;
technology life cycles are linked, speeding up & have exponential impact
▪ Modern technologies dramatically alter how
we live, interact, conduct business
▪ Plummeting price points of advanced digital
technologies fuel explosive demand for
devices with ever more connections and
capabilities
▪ The ‘combinatorial effects’ of these
technologies accelerate the speed of
technology life cycles, link them, and will
have an exponential impact
▪ Social and business norms, rules and
conventions are being challenged and need
to be re-considered
We live in exponential times. It is no longer sufficient to extrapolate based on historical data. We have to
create a future-oriented digital vision and ambition and define a roadmap of how to realize this vision.

In total we identified ~$100trn of value at stake to 2025
The left hand side of
the compass
identifies digital
initiatives that are of
greater value to
Society than Industry
Concerted public-
private and cross-
industry industry
collaboration is
needed to overcome
inhibitors such as
regulation
The right hand side of
the compass
identifies digital
initiatives that are of
greater value to
Industry than Society
Industry is likely to
prioritize such
activities and less
collective action is
needed to realize
the value
Notes: (1) We use a logarithmic scale for the value for Industry and Society with Industry value represented by cumulative operating profit from 2016-25; (2) Total Societal Value at Stake includes impact on the consumers, society and
environment; (3) Bubble size indicates the combined business and societal annual impact in 2025. Impact on external industries has not been considered.

Aviation, Travel & Tourism: A Digital Trailblazer
Industry Trends
▪ Growing Demand for Travel.
▪ Rise of the Digital Consumer
▪ Changing Security Landscape
Technology Trends
▪ Rise of Intelligent Automation
▪ Dominance of Digital Platforms
The Industry has been at the forefront of digital disruption, changing the way we travel in recent years.
However, the sector should brace itself for another wave of digital transformation.
Aviation, Travel & Tourism: Digital Borders
We look to a future in which eligibility to travel is based on the individual rather than the legacy system of a country of origin.
In short, the cover of your passport shouldn’t be the primary factor in defining whether you can travel
The Industry must pursue its comment to securely and seamlessly enable the movement of legitimate
travelers. There is a need to envision a framework for the cross-border movement of people in the future
7 ways to make travel safer:
1. More Intelligence and data sharing
2. Provide Advance Passenger Information
3. Make the Traveller Part of the Solution
4. Utilize Enhanced Harmonized Biometric Standards
5. Expand Multilateral Agreements
6. Aim for a Single Application & a Single Fee
7. Move to a Digital Process
