7th June 2020 (Year A) The Most Holy Trinity THE POWER OF BEING TOGETHER It is very encouraging that we are able already to gather for Mass in groups of 20. The groups of 10 last weekend were a special intimate experience, but now we will have a little more room to move. We still need you to ring the parish office (mornings 8:30 till noon) and book in for Sunday Mass. As one weekend fills up, we can slot you in for the next. This also means we fulfil the requirements of record-keeping. We hope that those on the reading roster can book in and fulfil their ministry of proclaiming the word when they are on the list. This week has also seen the first meetings of the Parish Pastoral Council and the Liturgy Committee. There is a lot to sort out in deciding how to proceed in the future. To help the parish to move forward, the Parish Council is keen to understand your experience of the parish in these weeks of lockdown. There will be a very brief survey to tap into your experiences and to show us what we want to retain and strengthen in the months ahead. This coming week, we are at last celebrating the sacrament of Penance with the children who prepared in Lent. We can do this because it is individual reconciliation. So families will come in small groups of five over sixteen time slots to celebrate the sacrament in the church. Unfortunately the lockdown kicked in just days before we were due to celebrate in March. In two weeks time, we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi (the Body and Blood of the Lord). This was to be our first communion weekend. But, of course, we could not have the parents’ meeting or the sacramental preparation, and it would not have been possible to have all the families at Mass for the communion Masses. So it had to be delayed. Fr Kevin Smith, the incoming parish priest, will work this out with the Parish Council and the sacramental team… later this year or perhaps next year. At the end of July, we planned to begin preparation for Confirmation which was going to be celebrated on 8 and 10 September. Because things are changing so rapidly, it is difficult to say yet if this can go ahead. We have to ask for your patience. Please remember the sick in your prayers James Bates, Rita Mawn, Jan Low (nee Stefano), Carmen Turner, Rob Stonier, Marlyn and John Chester, John Clarke, Anna Harkin, Monica Marron, Yvonne Reich, Jennifer Tuck. The Most Holy Trinity THE POWER OF BEING TOGETHER

It is very encouraging that we are able already to gather for Mass in groups of 20.

Please remember the sick in your prayers –

James Bates, Rita Mawn, Jan Low (nee Stefano), Carmen Turner, Rob Stonier, Marlyn and John Chester, John Clarke, Anna Harkin, Monica Marron, Yvonne Reich, Jennifer Tuck.

Our RCIA team is continuing to work with several candidates. Some are delayed till next year, but one candidate is hopeful the she can be confirmed and be admitted to the Table of the Eucharist at the end of June, when her new-born daughter is baptised. We’ll keep you informed.

And things have been going well at Sts Peter and Paul school, with all the children back in the classroom and the end of semester just three weeks away. Damien Sullivan is preparing for his role as acting principal for the second half of the year. We wish him all the best.

So, lots of good news! Look forward to seeing you back at Mass in the next few weeks. Give the office a ring today.

Sincerely

Parish Priest

COME, CELEBRATE EUCHARIST AGAIN!

We are celebrating Mass again, but still under very strict limitations. Twenty are now allowed to be present in the church, keeping correct social distance. We need to know who is there. Hands must be sanitised on entry and exit.

Please do not sit in the rows marked with a red cross. Please use every second row. A maximum of 3 people in a short pew and 4 people in the longer pews.

How do we organise this?

The normal parish Mass schedule is continuing: Wednesday 7pm; Friday 8am (with adoration); Saturday 9am; SATURDAY 6pm; SUNDAY 8am; SUNDAY 5:30pm.

The church will be sanitised after each Mass.

All Catholics are still dispensed from their Sunday obligation.

The Masses, even the three Sunday Masses, will be simple, without music. Please telephone or call into the parish office to book a place for Sunday Mass. The parish will make a list of names (including children) and arrange with you a Sunday Mass which suits you.

Please continue to use the Sunday Readings and Family Prayer with your family at home. Read the texts aloud, talk about them and pray together.

Other suggestions: Watch Mass online – www.archbne.org/bzw (12:30pm weekdays, 8am and 10am Sundays) Read the latest news in this week’s “The Catholic Leader” – www.catholicleader.com.au They also

welcome your suggestions for stories. Please share your news with their team at [email protected].

A NEW WAY TO CONTRIBUTE The collection basket is unlikely to return to the church this year. INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE NURSE and MIDWIFE has been designated by the World Health Organisation for 2020. This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale - world's most famous nurse. We have a number of parishioners

who do this wonderful work, so we would like to acknowledge the special contribution you make within our community, particularly throughout our current health crisis.

JUNE is dedicated to the Sacred Heart. This

is one of the most well-known devotions, taking Jesus' physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity. The devotion especially emphasizes the unmitigated love, compassion, and long-suffering of the heart of Christ towards humanity. This month, Pope Francis asks that “We pray that all those who suffer may find their way in life, allowing themselves to be touched by the Heart of Jesus”. ______________________________________________________________________________

A sense of humour is a gift from God. Laughter unites us

A TRINITY JOKE - About a century or two ago, the Pope decided

that all the Jews had to leave the Vatican. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Jewish Community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Jewish Community. If they won, they could stay. If the Pope won, the Jews would leave. The Jews realized that they had no choice so they picked a middle aged man called Moishe to represent them and he asked for one condition – to make it more interesting, neither side would be allowed to talk. The Pope agreed. The day of the great debate came and they sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Moishe looked back at him and raised one finger. The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat. The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Moishe pulled out an apple. The Pope stood up and said, “I give up. This man is too good. The Jews can stay.” An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said, “First I held up three fingers to represent the Most Holy Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and the wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?” Meanwhile the Jewish Community had crowded around Moishe asking what happened. Moishe said, “First he said to me that the Jews had three days to get out of here. I told him that no one of us was leaving. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Jews. I let him know that we were staying right here.” “And then?” asked a woman. “I don’t know” said Moishe. “He took out his lunch and I took out mine.”
