Cambios en el examen 2014

The shift in the score distributions does not necessarily mean that students' ability was stronger this year than last year. The changes in the score distributions seen on the 2014 exam can be explained by the following:1.The new AP Spanish Language and Culture exam provides students with a more appropriate way for demonstrating proficiency in Spanish than the previous one did. 2.Moreover, the findings of the college faculty on this year’s standard setting panel was that the prior standards for getting a 3 were far too stringent when compared to the requirements for placement into a 3rd semester college/university course. 3.Finally, if you think of the length of time most students in the standard group have studied Spanish (4-5 years in secondary school), it makes sense that there would be very few students getting 1s and 2s. Students who have persisted in study of Spanish for that many years are very likely to be ready for placement into the 3rd semester of Spanish in college. Consequently, we were not surprised to see a large percentage of AP Spanish Language and Culture students earning scores of 3, 4, or 5.
