If you are a resident of Tipp City or a local business owner, you should have received your copy of the district’s 2017-2018 Quality Profile in the mail late last week. This beautiful 12-page booklet provides a glimpse into what makes our district a place of outstanding educational opportunities for students. The QP helps characterize our tradition of excellence that can’t be fully captured by the state report card. As you look through the pages of this year’s Quality Profile, I hope you feel a sense of pride for Tipp City Schools that includes high quality instruction, innovation, enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular activities that range from Outdoor Club, to Chess Club, to Power of the Pen, to STEM Club. If you did not receive this publication, there are extra copies available for pick up at the Board of Education Office.

Despite cold temperatures, high winds and rain, the Tippecanoe High School marching band put on an outstanding performance of their show titled “Pandora’s Box” on Saturday evening at the Marion Local Marching Band Invitational, winning awards for 1st Place in Class A, Best Overall Visuals, Best Overall General Affect and GRAND CHAMPION! In addition to bringing home four trophies, the Band also earned another Superior rating from the OMEA judges. The band performs next at OMEA State Marching Band Finals this Sunday at Welcome Stadium. This is the band’s 15th consecutive year earning their spot in the State Marching Band Finals. Congratulations

The Tippecanoe High School Quiz Team recently competed on WOSU-TV’s quiz show, In The Know. They handily defeated Watkins Memorial High School from Pataskala by almost 300 points. Congratulations to seniors Cassie Sharp, Gabe Parsons, Ethan Wendel and Michael Vestey.

Wingmen of the Week

Congratulations to Tippecanoe Middle School’s Wingmen of the Week. Honorees are Jurney Curtis, 6th grade; Maeve McMaken, 7th grade; Shelby Hept, 8th grade; Brittasha Thompson, staff. The winners know how to be respectful, be responsible and have integrity.

Tippecanoe High School students enrolled in Profe Cory Breth's Honors Spanish 4 classes presented "5 Minutos Con..." projects. Each student selected how to begin the class. The projects were student-centered, interactive, creative, and diverse. The unique choices included story-telling, games, a Board and Brush tutorial, art classes, conversations, cheerleading/field commander lessons, art classes, and debates. There was even a step-by-step process of how to make a sandwich at Subway! Each project was spectacular! It’s amazing to see their work!

Students Enjoy Lunch With

Special Guests

Broadway Elementary students welcomed moms, dads, and other loved ones for the annual Parent Lunch. Approximately 400 guests joined the students and enjoyed the opportunity to meet their friends, play at recess, and visit their classrooms. Thank you to everyone who made this much-anticipated event a success.

Tippecanoe High School “Cardboard Regatta”

Some Tippecanoe High School students are getting ready for a unique race. Using only cardboard and duct tape, Annette Malott’s Introduction to Engineering students are building canoes. The goal is for students, 2 per project, to race their boats

without sinking. The race is expected to take place at the YMCA pool in early November.

LT Ball Intermediate students in Heather Ker’s social studies classes became archaeologists for the day! Working collaboratively and using excavating tools, students uncovered artifacts from prehistoric civilizations. Using evidence and reasoning skills, they had to infer what this culture would have been like and why these specific artifacts were left behind. Everyone “dug” being archaeologists!

Broadway Elementary students celebrated their 1st quarter PBIS success with an afternoon Fall Festival. The 2nd and 3rd graders enjoyed a special craft, extra computer and Chromebook time, snacks, face painting, outside play, and dodgeball. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. The district’s expectations to be respectful, be responsible and have integrity encourage good behavior. The key to the program’s success in schools is prevention and not punishment.

Courtyard

Improvements

The Environmental Science classes at Tippecanoe Middle School are working hard to prepare the school’s courtyard for the spring planting season. Last week Evergreen hydroseeded the courtyard. Hydroseeding combines grass seed, water, straw and fertilizer together and is sprayed on the ground to provide the optimal growing environment for the grass. Special thanks to Joe Duncan and Evergreen for their support of Tipp City Schools.

Nevin Coppock principal Katy Barker had some “administrative” help last week. The top student in each grade who earned the most money for the Read-A-Thon traded their student role for “Principal for the Day.” All students who participated in the fundraiser earned raffle tickets for every $5 raised for our Read-A-Thon. The other 2 “principals” were drawn from that raffle. Parents Involved in Education sponsored the weeklong Read-A-Thon that raised about $25,000 for Nevin Coppock and Broadway Elementary combined.

A New “Job” for Some Students

Nevin Coppock Elementary students donned purple shirts on Rett Syndrome Awareness Day to show support for one of their peers. Rett Syndrome is a debilitating neurological disorder that mostly affects females, causing them to lose their ability to speak, walk or use their hands.

A SHOW OF SUPPORT

REMINDER The 1st quarter of the school year ended on Friday, October 19th. Online report cards will be available on the Parent Portal beginning on Friday, October 26th at the end of the school day. If you misplaced your parent portal access letter with instructions to create your parent account, please contact your student's school office to request the instructions to create your account and connect your student(s) to it.

Hat Day for a Cause Tippecanoe High School students sported some interesting hats to raise funds to support mental health services at Dayton Children’s Hospital and the Miami Valley area. Students donated a dollar to wear a hat at school. THS students raised $150.

Nevin Coppock Super Heroes Nevin Coppock staff expressed their deep gratitude to some of their colleagues who work behind the scenes. They celebrated Cafeteria Worker Appreication Day and honored the lunch ladies who keep things running very smoothly for the kindergarteners and first graders. These ladies always have a smile and take great pride in their work.

Tippecanoe High School Student Senate is hosting

a competition coat drive against that purple and

gold school from the south. THS students are

encouraged to bring in gently used coats of any

type and size that will be counted and then

donated to St. Vincent de Paul of Dayton. The

winning school will be announced at the Tipp-

Butler football game on Friday October 26.
