A talk with some of your new friends

You are sitting with your new friends in a quiet place and

you're asking them questions about their life. Write the

questions and the answers.

How do you get around? What do you believe in?

What kind of celebrations do you have?

What kind of education do you have?

Think of another four questions to ask them about their culture

I chose this project because of the potential to link it to support a My family and me unit. Plus it just sounded really cool! And if it hooked my interest just from the title, I figured it would be likely to capture the attention of my elementary students.

I would like to change the project by requiring that the student choose their time and location according to when their great-great grandfather/mother lived when they were the same age they are now. So, for example, I would be setting my time machine to travel to Trondheim, Norway in 1716. This would make the project a study of one’s own family roots and it would make the study of that particular time period much more meaningful.

I would also make it much more collaborative by having the students post their findings to a class blog or wiki dedicated to the project. Students would be asked to comment on one another’s ‘trips’ as well as make suggestions on how to find someone who currently lives in those countries to possibly set up a present day chat via skype!
