"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. He guides me in right paths
for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at
my side, with your rod and your staff that give me courage. You spread the table before
me in the sight of my foes; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and kindness
follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come."
Psalm 23
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Our Easter Season continues with the beautiful Psalm 23 and of Jesus describing himself as the Good Shepherd from John chapter 10.
This past Saturday we were blessed to witness the second half of our 66 children making their First Holy Communion. You could clearly see our young children's enthusiasm, excitement and joy as they received Jesus in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist for the first time. The joy of parents, grandparents and relatives witnessing this special milestone in their child's life was, indeed, a blessing to behold.
The scriptures are filled with stories of parents who long for God's salvation and a better life for their children. In the ancient book of Genesis, Abraham, and his wife Sarah, experienced multiple tests of faith. With Abraham’s own great test of faith concerning his son Isaac, God proves ever faithful, establishing a covenant and promise that would endure for generations to come. For us, the ultimate fulfillment of that promise is Jesus. Born of the Virgin Mary, yet remaining fully God in his incarnation, Jesus is the eternally begotten Son of God... 'Light from light, true God from true God." (From the Profession of Faith)
Jesus ultimate purpose for coming into the world, is to nourish us with Himself through the Holy Eucharist and become food for our journey. He is THE Good Shepherd who leads us through this life ultimately into life eternal.
While it all might sound a bit complicated, it really is not. Parents love their children as good shepherds too. They seek to nourish and protect their children physically, emotionally and spiritually and through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, entrust their child's heart to the heart of Christ.
May God bless you this week! Fr. Gonyo

Ministry Spotlight!
Parish Pastoral Council
The Parish Pastoral Council is not a committee. It is a ministry. The Council’s primary gift is practical wisdom, providing the voice of the parish to Father Gonyo. It only requires a commitment of 12 hours per year and it’s a great way to get involved and learn all that goes on in our parish.
If you care about the life and the development of St. Rita Parish Church and School, please consider submitting your name for selection or accepting a nomination from a fellow parishioner. For more information, please contact Pam Kunzer at [email protected] or 585-698-7888.

St. Rita Men’s Group
The St. Rita Men’s Group is not a social group or a community service group. Our goal is to gather to support one another in our faith and our journey towards eternal life.
We meet once a month to discuss topics that explore our faith and the challenges we face day to day. We hope that by supporting one another, all members will each deepen his relationship with Jesus.
All men are welcome, no matter where you are in your faith journey. No commitment is required. Come to as few or as many meetings as you desire.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free reach out to John Matina at [email protected]
Our next gathering will be Monday, May 15 6:30-8:00pm in Room 1. We hope to see you there!

S’mores Galore (camping supplies, ingredients, mini grill, bug spray)
1. 1. Select a theme and go shopping for items. Aim for between 5 and 10 items with about a $50 total value. Don’t forget a basket or
container that goes with your theme! Use ribbon, tissue paper, tape or glue, and a cellophane bag to give your basket its finishing
touches.
2. 2. Add a layer of tissue paper to the bottom of your container to help prop up items. If using a large container, use newspaper or even a small cardboard box (which you can then cover in tissue paper).
3. 3. Begin by placing a sturdy item in the center. Add larger items and taller items behind the center item. Place smaller items toward the front.
4. 4. Use glue dots or tape to secure items to each other to keep them in place.
5. 5. Open the cellophane bag and roll down the sides down. Have one person hold the bag while the other lifts the basket and lowers it into the bag.
6. 6. If you have any especially large items that didn’t fit in the basket, you can tuck them into the bag behind the basket.
7. 7. Twist the top of the cellophane bag closed. Use wide, wired ribbon for the bow; it’s sturdy and can be shaped into place.
