How did you attract/address your audience?
To attract our audience we needed to start with a strong opening 15
seconds to pique the interest of the audience. To do this, we started
with strong shots of one of our male characters clearly deep in thought.
Due to the concerning look of this character, the audience are more
likely to be intrigued and continue watching.
As well as this, because of the age demographic we were aiming for in
our media product, viewers will see that it matches what we are aiming
for which is young adults. The opening shots establish the idea that the
film is targeted at young adults. The narrative of the film was designed
to keep the audience interested and reduce the risk of them losing
interest. I believe we achieved this through the use of the slow
suspenseful build up of tension through the actions of the characters
and the progressing story. The male character appears more agitated
throughout the first minute of our media product keeping the audience
interested in what is causing him concern. This culminates in what
could be described as a ‘hectic’ final minute of the thriller opening with
the murder of two men, who appeared to be at odds with each other by
an unsuspecting perpetrator. By having this suspenseful build up within
the narrative, the audience stay attracted to the mystery of what is
causing the agitation of the characters.
How did you attract/address your audience?
The use of the soundtrack also attracted the
audience. By creating a slow building suspense, the
audience are aware that there will be a climatic
ending to the opening of the thriller. Once the
mystery begins to unravel, the soundtrack picks up
the pace and complements the actions of the
characters. The effect of the soundtrack is to get
the audience to believe there will be a climatic
ending to the situation.
Another example of where the soundtrack is
used to attract an audience is the shootout
scene in ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’.
The soundtrack, similar to how our soundtrack
builds up, creates a suspenseful twist that leads
the audience to believe there will be a climatic
ending. This culminates when the protagonist
wins the shootout after a slow buildup, that
causes the audience to question whether the
hero will come out of the situation alive.
How did you attract/address your audience?
The audience is left on a cliffhanger at the end
of our media product as the last shot is of the
male characters hand slowly sliding down the
door after he has been shot. This attracts the
audience by making them question the motifs of
the killer, Eve, and what are the consequences
for her. This may attract the audience to watch
the remainder of the film because of the
ambiguity of the situation that just occurred.
The effect of cliffhangers is too often get the
audience to invest more time into the film or film
series. Due to the ending of our media product
in general, the audience are likely to be
shocked from the amount of action that
occurred within such a short space of time. This
leads to the audience being interested in why
these events occurred and why it lead to the
death of two men.
