Industrial Design students make function the new fad in uniforms for first responders. Ten fourth-year and six graduate students in Auburn University’s Industrial Design program worked in the apparel design world with a semester-long project designing and creating tactical uniforms to help first responders stay organized and comfortable on the job.

The College of Education is accredited by the National

Members of the Veterinary Medicine class of 2013 received an

average of 2 job offers.

The TIGER (Trading, Investing, & Global Economic Research) Lab is a state-of-the-art investment center in the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business where students get hands-on experience in securities analysis and decision-making in both real and simulated environments.

DesignIntelligence magazine ranked Auburn’s Industrial Design Program as a top Program in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction in 2014.

ONE REASON AUBURN IS SO

SPECIAL IS BECAUSE THE ADMINISTRATION

TRULY DOES LISTEN TO THE STUDENT VOICE.

The primary reason the new Recreation and Wellness

Center came to fruition is because a group of student leaders saw a need and did

something about that need. The Board of Trustees and

Auburn administration listened, and in the fall of 2013, Auburn

opened a state of the art Recreation and Wellness Center.

THIS ISHOME.Some places have the power to leave their mark on who you are and who you become. They shape your life not just while you’re there but long after. Auburn is such a place. With an initial master plan crafted by architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park in New York City, there’s no question that the Auburn campus is beautiful. But it’s more than beauty that captures the hearts of this community. As one alumnus says, whenever he comes back to campus he’s “home.”

30

After visiting a lot of schools, Auburn’s tight-knit community impressed me the most. Being from out of state, this was very important, and it made a large impact on my decision. Not only do I attend Auburn University, I am a part of the Auburn community as well. Another thing that impressed me about Auburn is our Creed. The students and faculty live it. It sets the tone for the entire university and unites us in common goals and values.”

FAMILY SPIRIT.Auburn’s Tiger mascot and War Eagle greeting capture our energy, invincibility, and drive. On campus, Tigers cheer on one of the great football teams in the nation. That spirit inspires more than fans. It inspires a community of traditions – old and new – and a culture of service locally and around the globe. Auburn spirit lasts a lifetime. With a worldwide family of over 250,000 alumni – you’ll have a built-in personal and professional network.

THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN LEARN AND GROW.

My favorite part is watching students come back several years later for their Learning Community reunions. It’s rare that a member of the group is missing – that tells me the program made a difference.”

– Ruthie Payne, Learning Community Coordinator

Honors College auburn.edu/honors

The Honors College offers qualified students a unique academic experience, designed to provide many of the advantages of a small college in the midst of Auburn’s diverse opportunities. The Honors College offers advantages of classes taught in small sections by professorial faculty providing in-depth dialogue and interaction between students and faculty. Honors College students may be enrolled in any major within the 12 colleges and schools. Beginning in the second semester of study, honors students receive priority registration for classes.

Minimum requirements for admission are a high school GPA of 3.75, an ACT score of 29 (or an SAT score of 1290), and evidence of high school leadership activities. Applications are mailed to students who are accepted to Auburn University by December 1.

Learning Communities auburn.edu/lc

Learning Communities and Living Learning Communities are small groups of first-year students who are co-enrolled in courses based on a common focus such as a major or interest; participate in a residential or non-residential option; engage in service learning; engage in curricular and co-curricular activities to promote academic and social connection; and pursue academic success strategies to graduate in a timely manner.

All of the Learning Communities have an on-campus residential option to allow members to live in the same residence hall.

UndergraduateResearch auburn.edu/undgres

Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a university with high research activity, Auburn provides students with research options in a variety of majors. In one program, qualified students may compete for 20 one-year fellowships and two one-semester fellowships in the Undergraduate Competitive Research Fellowship Program, offering the opportunity to conduct research under close supervision of faculty mentors in any degree program. Many majors provide the ability to work with faculty members on research in the lab or on special projects.

Students who excel in academics and work closely with a professor during the year are invited to present their findings at an annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Forum. Presentations range from testing gene therapy in the treatment of canine lymphoma to evaluating economic development opportunities in a small county in Alabama.

The Undergraduate Research Program fosters student-faculty collaborations on individual research and creative projects. Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a university with high research activity, Auburn provides students with research options in a variety of majors. Zachary’s research involves looking at the effect of using different materials in constructing acoustic, flat-top guitars to better understand the influence of different materials used for the nut and saddle in relation to the sound of the guitar and if these materials can be used to achieve different sounds/effects. Guitars achieve sound and volume by the transfer of vibrations from the strings through the nut and saddle to the soundboard and fretboard.

“One of the rewarding things about research at Auburn is that it allows you to make

connections with people both personally and professionally. These relationships not only

benefit your career later in life – they are the kind of connections that help you keep a

certain level of sanity when life gets rough.”

LEARNING.Most universities offer comprehensive programs and strength in different types of academic offerings. So, what makes one different from the next?

At Auburn, the academic offerings are outstanding, and what makes the campus different is the atmosphere and connection people have been describing as “just like family” for more than 150 years. In large part, this is due to the mentoring, academic support, and overall experience from the first campus visit through the graduation ceremony.

Time and again students say, “once you’re here you won’t want to leave.” Although you will forever remain a part of the Auburn Family once you’ve called Auburn your home, there is nothing like living here and being a part of it every day. And when you do finally set off to begin a career, you’ll have the 250,000+ network of alumni to help you succeed in the world.

The campus supports security measures with an extensive closed circuit surveillance system, nighttime police escorts, and the nightly Tiger Transit security shuttle. When an emergency

does occur on campus, AU Alert notifies students and employees via voice, email, and text messages with detailed instructions. Students can opt to receive notification on up to four phone numbers and two email addresses.
