The Auburn Lions Club will start its
new year July 1 with some new officers.
The new president will be Steve Billbe, a
Lion since 2013, coming off two years as
1st vice president. Prior to
that he headed the nomi-
nating committee in 2014.
Steve lives in Auburn and
drives a USD 437 school
bus. His contact phone is
256-2274/785-640-6966
or email him at
Next in line as 1st Vice President is
Dallas Caster, a previous president of
the Club, Dallas has served many roles in
his years as a Lion and is a local veteri-
narian. The 2nd Vice President is a con-
tinuing position for Melinda Patterson,
principal of Auburn Elementary School.
Ellen Caster will continue as Secre-
tary; Gary Adkins will continue as Treas-
urer with Mary Adkins retaining her role
as Projects Coordinator and Laura Tim-
mons as Membership Chair.
Michele Reese will continue her in-
volvement as editor of the Auburn News
and assisting with projects promotion.
Each and every Lion is important to
the Club and to Auburn. Some certainly
are more involved than others; some are
aging and have physical limi-
tations but all are important.
Perhaps in this coming year,
2017-2918, you will step up
to help if you are already a
member or join the Club if
you are interested. For a
limited time new members
can enjoy a reduced membership during
this Lions Clubs International’s Centenni-
al Year (through June 10). Contact one
of the Lions for any questions or to say,
“Yes” to being a Lion that cares about
Auburn, Kansas and the world.
Congratulations to all the Lions offic-
ers and coordinators. Watch for what
the Lions will be doing in Auburn to make
our community an even better place in
which to live.
Note: the Auburn News has a new email
address, [email protected]
(due to a recent hack of yahoo email).

Benefit BBQ for Kiernan-Dawn Rangel Family
There will be a benefit BBQ on Saturday, June 10, in honor of Kiernan Rangel who died March 17 after three weeks in the hospital with a massive asthma attack resulting in brain dam-age. He left his mother Dawn to raise his now five-year-old son. His mother was also left with huge medical, legal and funeral bills; Kiernan had no health insurance. Hearts are broken for this local family and many want to help. The event will be held in Fellowship Hall at Auburn Christian Church from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Bring your friends and family for a great meal of brisket/pulled pork/chicken, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, salad, baked beans and desserts. The menu prices range from $6 -$12. Sam Lawson (Showtime) will be on the grill. Donations have been received from Herman’s Meat Market/
Smokehouse of Topeka, Auburn Gambino’s, Haag Oil/Max’s BP, the Auburn Lions Club, Au-burn Animal Clinic, and the local community.
Auburn Presbyterian VBS Presents “Starveyors”
Children three years of age through Grade 6 (for coming year)
are invited to Vacation Bible School at Auburn Presbyterian Church,
11th and Washington, Monday-Friday, June 26-30, from 9 a.m. to

children to telescopes and the marvels painted in the sky by our
Creator, they will discover the wonder among all wonders that the
God who created everything there is, the knowable and the unknow-
able, the visible and the invisible, wants a personal relationship with them!
Registration will be appreciated but children can simply come each day. Teens and
others are invited to help. For questions contact Julie Copp at 785-217-3479.

Auburn News Lions Clubs International was founded June 7, 1917 by businessman
Melvin Jones at Chicago, Illinois. His personal code was, "You can't get
very far until you start doing something for somebody else." The Lions
mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet hu-
manitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international under-
standing through Lions Clubs. Lions worldwide will celebrate their centen-
nial in 2017 with the theme Where There’s a need, there’s a Lion. Today,
there are 46,000 clubs in every corner of the world.
The Auburn Lions Club was organized on April 21, 1965 by a group of
men who cared about this community. Later, when women were added
as Lions in 1987, Auburn, too, welcomed women into the Club. Today
there are 20 men and women serving as Lions in Auburn. Club growth is
always a goal. Interested? Contact Membership Chair Laura Timmons at
256-2163 or any of the Auburn Lions.
