How to use 3rd-year review

Brief statement of accomplishments, progress, and prospective progress in research and teaching
Copies of work published/completed and works in progress
Department actions
Department head assembles materials for review
Voting faculty deliberate and vote Vote results are forwarded to

Dean’s actions
Dean provides clear explanation of the decision, and forwards copy of the review dossier and contract renewal documents to Academic Affairs for each possible outcome: 3-year renewal Terminal 1-year contract 1-year contract with possible renewal
and stipulations

Academic Affairs provides a response after review of the following: Dean’s narrative Recommendations of department head Candidate’s review file Contract renewal documents
What do possible outcomes mean?
Unequivocally positive: on track for tenure 3-year contract renewal
Unequivocally negative: tenure not possible, no desire to retain 1-year terminal contract and dismissal
Problematic but still possible: could make tenure with a change in direction, desire to retain in department 1-year contract with stipulations
