Sounds familiar?• Bali is now often associated with Trash• There are 6,000 hotels on the island and most of
them are a big part of the problem.• Most initiatives are focused on dealing with the
consequences (beach clean up, trash collection) • Campaigns to “educate” the locals to stop
burning their trash have had mixed results so far.• The occupancy of hotels is down 30% compared
to last year partly due to the bad image of the island. So hotels are listening and ready to take part in an initiative that will tackle the problem.
Who are we? • Cimborazo is an Alliance of the True Sustainability
Leaders of Bali. Hotels, Resorts, Retreats that care: about their staff, the local communities and the environment.
• Properties that have a proven track record in sustainable solutions.
• Places that aim at impacting positively the local communities.
Initiative supported by key stakeholders
Why us?Cimborazo members have been impacting the local communities around their property for more than 30 years with tangible results:
• Organizing waste collection• Convincing locals to stop burning their trash• Setting up recycling centers• Original upcycling ideas, zero waste to landfill
campaigns• Competition of the best village in SukawatiHow can we share the best practices and
impact the global community of Bali ?
The PledgeExperts have put together a list of easy and important best practices that can have an immediate and important impact.
• Monitor and reduce food waste• Sorting the trash• Purchasing policy• Composting, Recycling, Upcycling… and reducing• Training of the staff • Communication to the guests
By signing the pledge, hotels commit to its terms.
The PledgeHow does it work?• Hotels go to www.thinkoutsidethetrash.com and go
through a self-assessment which aims at inspiring them.
• They sign the pledge online and pay between 25,000 and 50,000 INR per month, according to the number of rooms + 5 room nights (we will organize a silent auction).
• They can use the logo Thinkoutsidethetrash in all their communication
• They will be featured on the website as a trash hero of Bali
The Board of Cimborazo will validate the pledge and how the funds are used.
