Objectives
This project aims at demonstrating that a serious game connected to real-
time energy data can improve energy efficiency and reduce energy
consumption through behaviour change in social housing communities.
EnerGAware concept
• Help people to understand how energy is used in their homes.
• Educate people about energy savings techniques.
• Encourage discussion of energy issues in social networking platforms.
• Be an entertaining game for a diverse audience.
Work Packages
• WP1 – Project management ( WP Leader : UPC )
• WP2 – Specification of user, building and game requirements ( WP
Leader : UOP )
• WP3 – Design and development of the integrated serious game
and metering system solution ( WP Leader : FRE)
• WP4 – Pilot implementation (WP Leader : ISEP)
• WP5 – Monitoring and Evaluation (WP Leader : UOP)
• WP6 – Maximizing the EnerGAware impact (WP Leader : EDF)

Energy savings (Gas and electricity) / Reduction of the energy peak demand
Behaviour changes / Increased energy awareness
Energy knowledge sharing / IT literacy / Social inclusion
• Paper-based survey administered to all 2,772 social houses managed by
DCH in Plymouth - 537 of the households completed the survey
• 64% of households were willing to save energy with the right support
• 42% of households thought they could not save any more energy
• 41% of households were worried about their energy bills
• 29% of households did not understand how their homes used energy
• 52% of households had never changed their energy supplier
• 23% of households found it difficult to pay their energy bills
• The average thermostat setting in the households was 20.9◦C
• In winter, the average household heated their homes for around 9.5 hours on a
weekday and 11.2 hours on a weekend day
• Around 25% of households had their heating on 24 hours
