Scenario
3D monitor – The actual task will appear here. The user (student-operator) can remove virtual caries on the 3D virtual jaw containing the haptic tooth.
Assistant monitor – The control panels will appear here. The user (or the student assistant) can load the task, change the instruments and burs; zoom-in and -out of the graphics; and, position the jaw and the lighting.
The students will login using a participant code and password which will be assigned to them by the hapTEL team.

Workstation
Click the ‘Patient’s Case Panel icon’ to choose the type of carious lesion you want to practice removing.
Click the ‘Dental Tray Panel icon’ to choose the type of instruments e.g. handpiece, burr, probe and mirror you want to use
After each clinical operation, click the ‘Patient’s record Panel’ to can get some feedback about the operation you have completed in the form of text and video.
After completing the Session, click the ‘Worksheet Panel icon’ to answer some questions regarding the operations you have completed.
Stop and check the tooth being prepared for closer inspection.
Move the patient to change the angle of view about the tooth being prepared.
Use the dental loupes to magnify the size of the image.
Adjust the light to get a better view of the tooth being prepared.
Logoff to exit the application.
Choose the type of carious lesion
Instructions will appear in this box.
Choose the type of instrument e.g. Slow or fast hand-piece
Use the command buttons during operation e.g. Move the patient , inspect the tooth closely, adjust light or use the dental loupes
Choose the patient record you want to revise
Get numeric feedback on the amount of caries removed and healthy tissues remained
Watch the recorded operation using the multimedia buttons
Complete the worksheet to provide feedback for the session, the learning tasks and the hapTEL Dental Workstation
