Theories applied to Storyboard

Stage 1: Trailer begins with presenting Adams state of equilibrium, photographs of the main character as a baby, to a child, to a teenager to give an insight to his previous life. Adam will then be shown settling in within his new town, signifying new beginnings and peace at last.Stage 2: Disruption occurs when Nicole is Kidnapped and the peace is disruptedStage 3: The boyfriend realises Nicole is missing and is compelled to do something about itStage 4: The boyfriend attempts to save Nicole from the evil kidnapperStage 5: Unknown through the trailer whether or not the equilibrium is restored in order to create enigma, which links to another theorists idea and aims to engage the audience to watch the film to find out the ending.

The narrative involves a transformation as Nicole comes out the kidnapping a different person to who she was before because she has been scared mentally and physically through the trauma of the event.

2 main factors within my trailer which create enigma and apply to Roland Barthes theory- One character wears a mask; this creates mystery as its

unknown to the audience who he is and what his intentions are, this adds a horror element to. It allows alternate explanations for the audience to interpret the mask in their own way. The purpose I wanted Adam to wear a mask in some scenes was to create an alter ego for the character, and his mask represents this other side of him. I feel this links to the Hermeneutic code.

Roland Barthes- Enigma Codes

-Another enigma code is not showing at the end of the trailer whether or not the Movie ends with a new or restored equilibrium, this should leave the audience on a cliff hanger and wanting to watch the film as they want to find out the ending. I feel this links most to the Proairetic code.

I will present binary opposites through my choice of dress code and colour representation, which will represent Good vs. Evil.

Adam will wear dark colours associated with fear, loneliness, death and depression were as Nicole will wear lighter colours, associated with vulnerability, purity and innocence.

Rational vs. Irrational / Sane and Insane behaviour will also provide opposites within the same character. To begin Adam will be more than rational, for example when setting the equilibrium however towards the end Adam will have turned crazy and irrational in his behaviour and actions.

Propp believed the characters were the main structure of the media, therefore I wanted to apply this to my movie. I found it helped me come up with a narrative plot so was very useful and important to the organisation and planning of my trailer. Despite not all of the typical characters being featured in my trailer they’re all in the story line and planning of my movie.

In my storyline there is a struggle

between the hero and the villain. The

villain is also eventually overcome.
