Woodlawn Day is our annual church family homecoming. We will have a pot-luck meal following the 11:00 am worship service. Each family is asked to bring a vegetable, a salad and dessert to share with your church family. The meat & drinks will be provided. Each year a special offering is taken on Woodlawn Day. This year’s offering will support our ef- forts to replace the existing church van. Our current van is over 17 years old & showing much wear in it’s abilities to be a dependable vehicle. Each family is asked to be in prayerful consideration of their contribution toward our Woodlawn Day offering.

After a summer in which temperatures soared into the nineties and

floated there for weeks at a time, the cooling air comes as a welcome

reminder that August has left the building and September is here. With

September comes a flurry of activities and special services at Wood-

lawn. If you would allow me, I’d like to remind you of what’s in store.

On Sunday the 11th, our nation will observe the tenth anniversary of

the worst attack on our mainland since the War Between the States.

That morning, during the 11:00 service, we will commemorate that

event by remembering those who lost their lives in this horrific, bar-

baric act of violence, and honoring those who put their lives in danger

daily to protect the people of Campbellsville and Taylor County.

We will host our Police, Sheriff, Fire, EMS, and National Guard per-

sonnel as our special guests and friends. I have been fortunate over

the past nine years to work along side of many of these brave men and

women and I can testify to the fact that this community is fortunate to

have them on post, doing their job faithfully. So on that day we will say

“Thank You” as a part of our service. Afterwards, we will be serving

them lunch. Nell Vaughn may be calling you to ask for help in preparing

or serving. When she does, step up to be a part of this important

moment of remembrance and gratitude.

September 18th brings another special service. That date has

been designated as National Back To Church Sunday. This is a

wonderful opportunity to begin a new habit of church attendance if you

have fallen out of the routine. If you know someone who has been a

part of Woodlawn, or any other congregation for that matter, but has

not been attending regularly for awhile, why not contact them and en-

courage them to restart the practice of regular worship that week.

You’ve no doubt heard me say countless times that mere church at-

tendance is not the same as discipleship, but without regular times of

corporate worship and study, discipleship is impossible. So now is the

time to help our friends get back in the “Sunday Swing” of things.

Woodlawn Day! Our own special homecoming and family reun-

ion will be celebrated on September 25th with a special service.

It is a look backward as we remember the handful of foresighted

individuals and families who, over a half century ago, realized the need

for a congregation on the west side of town. It’s a look around as we

see those who make up the family of Woodlawn today. And it’s a look

forward, anticipating the future of the congregation as we seek to

serve the Lord till He returns.

After the second service, we will gather for a meal at noon. Whereas

the lunch on the 11th is only for those special guests, EVERYONE eats

on Woodlawn Day, so come and bring your appetite. New shirts bearing

our recently adopted logo will be available that day as well. A sign up

sheet will be posted so that you can order your size.

As you can see, there are a lot of wonderful things happening at

Woodlawn in September. Don’t miss a single moment!

Join us Sunday, September 25th as we celebrate Woodlawn Day! Woodlawn Day is our annual church family homecoming. We will have a pot-luck meal following the 11:00 am worship service. Church Co-Ed Bowling League—

please contact Melinda Gray at 789-

1183. The league plays on Thursday

nights beginning September 8th.

Men, women, or youth are

welcome to play.

Over the past month we have been going to Ray Street

and providing for the needs of that community. During

this time we have made many relationships with these

people. On Wednesdays we go to the playground at Ray

Street and play with the kids. Every time we pull up we

get welcomed with hugs and smiles from the kids that

are waiting for us to get there. It has been so cool to see

those kids become attached to some of the students of

Woodlawn Christian Church. God will continue to show

His plan and His glory through the people of this com-

munity. There are days when I doubt what we are doing

there is working or even where we need to be. Some days

there will only be two kids and I will question the call

that God has put on my heart. But God will always come

through in your moments of doubt and will show you his

perfect plan.

On the day we presented the gospel to the kids I

thought to myself, we will probably only have three or

four kids, but when we pull up we found the biggest

group of kids we have ever had, there was at least 12

kids! Last week as the students and kids ran up to the

playground John Pike and I had the opportunity to talk to

a man named James. James is going through a lot in his

life right now and we got to share the gospel with him.

As John and I joined the others we got to talk about how

much spreading the gospel pumped us up and brought

excitement to our lives.

God has a plan for Woodlawn Christian church and

the people of Ray Street and I ask for your prayers.
