Greetings to you! Cheryl and I are looking forward to the opportunity to journey with you all. We are very grateful to Rachael for all of the preparation she has put into assisting us as we make this transition to Shreveport and Summer Grove UMC. To all of you who attending the Onboarding meeting this week. It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to begin getting to know you and to hear your hopes and concerns. I have been exploring quotes about new beginnings: “Each day brings with it the opportunity—and the excuse—to make a new start. With the right mindset, there is substantial optimism to be harvested from the ideas that starting over is possible and that new beginnings can create new and suc-cessful outcomes.” Another quote that spoke to me: “We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” Joseph Campbell

Jesus spoke to the importance of preparing for new life. He said that we do not put new wine into old wineskins. The old wineskin will burst and not be able to hold the new wine. I invite you to join me in being in prayer about how to prepare for new life and new begin-nings. I look forward to new beginnings with you Joe

of a Gathering in your area.

July and August Mission Opportunities

During the month of July, we will prepare for our Mission Madness pro-ject for August. Help us reach out to our community by supplying needy students with much needed school supplies. You can do this in two dif-ferent ways:

1. Fill a backpack full of supplies – Use the supply list and choose a specific grade level, purchase everything on the list, put it in a backpack, and return to the church by August 4th. Be sure to label the backpack with the grade level it is; (copies of supply list will be available at the church) or

2. Make a monetary donation by August 4th. We will use this money to go purchase supplies and assemble complete backpacks for chil-dren. Be sure to mark Missions/School Supplies in the memo box of any check.

Drop off filled back packs in Crichlow Hall next to the bulletin board.

Mission Madness - August 10th at 10 a.m. – Anyone able is

encouraged to join us at the church to assemble and check backpacks. We will pray over each backpack for the student who might receive it.

overwhelmed with the

They were at a high capacity of animals

and were very much in need.

2019 Year Two list for publication for removal at Charge Conference.

We are updating our membership rolls to reflect active membership. We know that members lives change, circum-

stances change, some move away or have found another church, and some have simply become inactive. We have

addresses for those whose name does not have an asterisk (*). They have received letters regarding their member-

ship and offering several options: renewing their commitment, transferring to another church, and withdrawal of

membership.

We do not have addresses for those names with an asterisk (*). If you have a current mailing or email address for

any of those individuals, please contact the church office by phone (686-2514) or email (sgumcoffice@bellsouth)

so that we may contact them regarding their membership.
