Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce

WHOOPERS & HOOPERS! With a record 144 teams and over 1100 players, it

was another outstanding weekend for Hastings and

the surrounding area. This is the largest number of

teams that has ever participated in the Whoopers &

Hoopers tournament. With the people they bring

along to watch and with time between games to shop and spend

money, the economic impact on the community

is phenomenal.

I would like to thank the many sponsors,

volunteers and everyone who helped with

this year’s tournament. It would not be a

success without your support and contributions.

Living in Hastings, we take for granted how good

this tournament really is. I had the opportunity to talk to numerous

players, and without a doubt, the tournament we hold in Hastings is

the premier tournament in the Midwest. That is a great compliment

coming from players who play in numerous tournaments throughout

the year and come from all over the United States.

Last but not least, I would like to give a big thank you to the Whoopers

& Hoopers Committee and the Chamber staff for the endless hours they

put in to make this such a fantastic event. If you would like to be part of

next year’s Whoopers committee please contact Mikki at 402-461-8400.

From the President’s Desk Tom Hastings

Thank you to everyone who came to Calico Cottage and Julie’s Xpressions for our latest Cash Mob---we had a great crowd! A special thank you goes out to Sue Brown and Julie Ochsner and their staff for being so welcoming. Stay tuned for details on our next Cash Mob.

RETAIL STUDY RESULTS! The Retail Development Committee of the

Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce recently

employed the services of Dr. Corey Stutte of

Strategic Pioneer to conduct a retail study to help

identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,

and threats of our community and surrounding

area. The information from the study is broken

down into several categories and geared toward

specific market segments. Presentations are held

at the Chamber Development Center to provide

businesses with information that will help them

better capture their market potential.

The future meeting schedule is: April 10th — Electronics and Appliances

April 24th — Entertainment and Recreation

May 8th — Food and Beverages

May 22nd — General Merchandise

June 12th — Health and Beauty

June 26th — Home Improvement

July 10th — Household Furnishings and Operations.

Regardless of the presentation title any of the

presentations would be beneficial to the overall

welfare of a business. For more information please

contact the chamber at 402-461-8400. cash mob

The general idea is to encourage people to go into local businesses and spend their money, en masse, as a way to support our local retailers
