startup different from the

other startups?

ONergy provides an innovative approach to address challenges of energy access:

• Technology Innovation: Full range of decentralised and customised solar solutions. In addition to promoting solar lighting solutions, ONergy has developed new and unique products such as solar TVs and solar computers (for digital access), solar irrigation pumps and solar micro cold storage (for agriculture), solar AC and DC microgrids (for livelihoods).

• Business Innovation: Operating through a network of Renewable Energy Centres thereby developing a complete ecosystem and energy infrastructure. A network of trained rural entrepreneurs and NGO/MFI partners are able to reach remote areas and provide prompt after sales service in a cost effective way. ONergy is ISO certified with strong systems and processes.

• Financing Innovation: ONergy has developed innovative financing models by establishing revolving energy corpus and guarantor fund to support its partners and customers. Financing is extended for solar lighting systems, solar microgrids and solar irrigation systems. ONergy has partnered with 7 rural banks, 8 commercial banks and 7 Micro-finance institutions.

startup transforming India?

• Transformative change in the most backward region – ONergy has been successfully working in the most difficult region of the country. Districts of Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand are among the most backward and deprived of basic infrastructure, necessities.

• Large scale impact – Till date, Onergy has impacted lives of 2 lac people across 1500 villages by providing a range of solar solutions to address challenges of education, livelihoods and health. Our goal is to impact 1 million lives by 2016. Impact Investment Exchange Asia (IIX) conducted a detailed impact assessment of ONergy and awarded an “Impact Score of 12.5 of 15'' and SROI (Social Return on Investment) score of $7.80 of social return for every dollar spent.

How is your

startup transforming India?

• Innovative financial mechanisms or business models for delivering sustainable energy - ONergy has innovated on all 3 fronts of business model, technology mix and financial models which makes it unique. Renewable Energy Centres support in developing an ecosystem and a strong last mile distribution and service infrastructure. Our non-profit, SwitchON undertakes a number of training and capacity building programs. Innovative financial models have been developed with financing availability from banks, MFIs, establishing revolving corpus and guarantor fund. Different financing models have been developed for different product categories such as solar lighting systems and solar microgrids.

• Increasing energy access through inONvation incubator - In other to increase energy access, our aim is to provide end-to-end energy solutions. A separate division called inONvation incubator has been setup that looks to pilot and commercial validation of new solar technologies and business ideas. ONergy aims to move beyond solar lighting and cooking and looks into how energy access can solve other social problems. Appropriate solar solutions have been developed to tackle problems in agriculture, education, health and livelihoods.
