A Message From Mrs Aplin... Dear Parents, We have had an excellent half term with students doing particularly well with their homework, which is now all in regularly on time. The School has been victim to a sickness bug for the past four weeks which seems to have passed. However, we will be focussing very much on good attendance now, because this has a big effect on students’ academic progress. We are approaching half term and the last day (25 October) is Photograph Day. On this day individual images will be taken of all students, along with team photos for the Student Council, Student Senior Leadership Team, House Captains. Sports Teams of course will have their pictures taken as usual. Please make sure your child comes in full school uniform as these photographs may be on your walls for a long time! A Message From Mrs Aplin...Dear Parents,

We have had an excellent half term with students doing particularly well with their homework, which is now all in regularly on time.

Cranbourne’s Got Talent 2019It’s official… Cranbourne Has Talent! October 2019 saw the return of our annual talent show organised by Mrs Simpson and Mr Knatt of Andrew Lloyd Webber House. Cranbourne students embraced the opportunity to show off their talents and skills, with House Points up for grabs! This year students competed in the heats and semi-finals during lunchtime and after-school. In a change of format, this year the Grand Final was held in the evening in the Drama Studio where parents were able to watch the acts perform.

Every entry to Cranbourne’s Got Talent was rewarded with 10 House Points. Once in the final, students were competing for:• 1st Place: 100 House Points and a ticket

to 9 to 5, The West End Musical• 2nd Place: 75 House Points• 3rd Place: 50 House Points

Members of staff tasked with the tough job as Judges at the final were; Mrs Holmes (Head of Thomson House), Miss Alner (Head of Austen House), Mrs Aplin (Headteacher) and Miss Conlon (Deputy Headteacher).

The competition was a great success with students from across all houses and year groups participating in a variety of acts dancing, beat boxing, magic and even a dog act in the final!

Congratulations to all the finalists, particularly to Danell (Head Girl) who came in 1st place with a fantastic dance routine.

“I am extremely proud of all the students that took part in either the heats, semi-finals or the finals. Most of the students in the final had clearly gone away and practiced for the final showing fantastic progress.” Mrs Simpson Head of Andrew Lloyd Webber House

“It is amazing to see the variety of different acts, I never expected to be watching a singing act, followed by a magician, followed by a real live dog attempting to jump through a ring of fire! All of the acts were absolutely fantastic and the audience support from parents, students and staff was brilliant. Can’t wait for next year!” Miss Conlon, Deputy Headteacher

“Cranbourne’s Got Talent was an excellent house competition from start to finish. It began with a fantastic variety of acts from all who participated and finished with an exceptional evening of talented performances from magic tricks, dance acts, singers and even a dog act. Well done to all involved.” Mrs Holmes, Head of Thomson House

“What a fabulous night of talent, bravery and pure positivity! It is true that Cranbourne DOES have talent – in abundance! Well done to all the acts that took part and huge congratulations to Danell who took first place”. Miss Alner, Head of Austen House

Final Standings:

1st Place – Danell Purdue2nd Place – Aaliyah Harmer3rd place (Joint) – Lucas Miller, Milly and Poppy Richardson, Nikita Canning and Aaliyah Harmer (Dance Group) and Jake Steel

On Discovery Day (Tuesday 15 October), the Year 7s spent their afternoon helping to improve the local environment around Cranbourne. One of the ways they did this was by working together to pick up litter in the Cranbourne area.

In groups, led by the teachers, the Year 7s went to different areas near the school, using their litter pickers to get anything nearby. They were able to pick up a lot of litter, from cans to bottle caps, with their excellent teamwork, and the help of both staff and other students, collecting an astonishnig 20 kilograms of litter in total. The impact of this litter pick has no doubt helped the local environment a lot, and it shows how productive and satisfying it can be to work in a team and improve the lives of others.

Update from: Duke of Edinburgh Award

On Saturday 12th October the Bronze and Silver DofE teams completed their first Day Walk, learning how to navigate using their Ordnance Survey Maps. Despite the weather the students had a lot of fun and learnt many key skills regarding navigation and teamwork. In November the students will be working on planning their routes for their practice expedition, working through the DofE website to electronically map their route.

We are looking forward to our first training weekend in March, when we will be learning First Aid, campcraft, cooking and stove safety as well as further navigation and teamwork skills.

On Tuesday the 15th of October a group of Senior Students went to Rowan Lodge, a nursing home near Basingstoke. This was a chance for the students to talk to the residents and keep them company. Throughout the afternoon, stories were exchanged about the lives of those people in the Care Home and modern day school life at Cranbourne. This allowed the residents to learn how schools may have changed since they’ve studied, while also teaching the students what the residents went through when they were our age. At the Care Home’s request, some students performed an incredible dance routine, which impressed the residents, while also cheering them up.

Overall, the afternoon was very positive and I am sure that both the students and residents enjoyed it greatly. I know this is something that Rowan Lodge and the school are very keen to repeat, as it is an all-around lovely experience that I look forward to happening again.
