As you know, An Internet is the area that you can place the information against the whole world. In contrast, an intranet is a computer network that uses Internet Protocol technology to share information, operational systems, or computing services within an organization. This term is used in contrast to internet, a network between organizations, and instead refers to a network within an organization.

In our case, The University of Aizu constructed a intranet that is limited access only in the University. It is like a 'miniature Internet.' The main parts are aggregated in ´On-Campus Only´ page. You can access the contents of this page only in The University of Aizu.

At first, you click this tab which is on the green belts

Incidentally, our Prof. Anna and me make an appearance on the home page as a symbol picture of 20th Anniversary Celebration.

If you click the 'Students and Staff' tab, you can find next figure page. There are lots of information for students and staff in this page. You can see lists of news of The University of Aizu in center. In addition, you can find 'On-Campus Only' Tab.

There are lots of information and feature that is communicated internally in The University of Aizu.

These informations in 'Guidance to Students' are separated 4 sections for undergraduate students, graduate students, campus life and career.

At first, some of features for undergraduate students are communicated internally within intranet.

The features for undergraduate students are also separated 2 sections. They are academic administration system and course planning system.

You can use external access to the these system by students if you click right side menus. In this case, you need your unique id and password that is gave from The University of Aizu.

If you click the 'Administration System', you can enter into next figure page. Then, you can choose Japanese version or English version.

It has a lot of features such as syllabus registration, student cooperative class project enrollment, grades registration, student class evalution, graduation thesis enrollment, student class evaluation, report for decision of career, and registration application.

After select language, a new window suddenly appears. It contains a lot of features that has been named 'Campus Vision.' If you want to use it, you have to enter your unique id and password.

Campus Vision construct 14 sections that was is indicated on left side.

At first, you can see latest information such as announcements, lecture cancellations, classroom changes, supplementary lectures, and schedule.

Announcements shows internally news of The University of Aizu such as job hunting information.

Lecture Cancellations shows a list of date and class id.

Supplementary lectures also shows the list of date and class id.

Announcements for Student shows news of The University of Aizu without left side announcements.

Classroom Changes shows date and class id.

Schedule shows school event. If there are not latest information, these shows a message such as 'Relevant xxx cannot be found.'

If you click 'Timetable/Schedule' in left side bar, you can see your unique past, current, future schedule as timetable form.

If you click class evaluation, you can see the list of each class you took. It shows lecture name, class category, instructor, class bbs button, resister evalution button, and total result button.

You can see 'not answered' trend in this result.

If you click the Class BBS, you can use the BBS to consult with each your instructor or your fellow in same class.

I have never see any message in this BBS feature.

If you click SCCP Enrollment, you can see instructor name, total student capacity, SCCP number, theme/content, laboratory number, and address of instructor in the SCCP Theme Display.

In SCCP Thema Select, you can choose three preferred themes by clicking the [Apply] button. You can see instructor name, total student capacity, theme/content and so on.

Instructors are listed alphabetically in left side bar.

In List of SCCP Students by Instructors, you can see clearly SCCP theme, instructor name, enrolled students, planned enrolled capacity, and number of enrolled student.

In Facility Reservation, you can check reservation status of facility. If you click any facility in list of facility available for reservation, weekly timetable is indicated. You can also check new reservation, facility information, and colour notes.

You can review about facility reservation status on this page. By specifying the search criteria, you can see the status of the desired facility conveniently. Open the menu by pressing the pull-down key, please specify the four items of Registration status, Usage category, Period, and Facilities.

By using Thesis Theme Display, you can review about the information of the thesis theme at Graduation Thesis Theme Selection. When you click favorite instructor in the list of left side, this page shows Instructor name, Student capacity, and Theme / Content.

When you open List of Graduation Thesis Students by Instructors, you can review the information of Instructor name, Enrolled Student, Planned enrollment capacity, and Number of confirmed students.

When you click ‘Registration Application’ button in left bar, you can open the page of Campus Plan. There are 2 functions in this page, they are Display of courses registered for, and Registration check result. Each function have explanation of Function, and Message.

At Display of courses registered for (timetable), you can check the individual information. The item of Student ID number, Name, Undergraduate School, Grade, Postal code number, Address, the time table of The 1st term and the 2nd term.

The time tables of the 1st and the 2nd term for one week are displayed in this page. Each period has the information of the subject title, the subject track, the classification of Lecture or Drill, the instructor name, subject ID, the number of units, and Intensive course. If you click the link of each subject, you can review the detail information of them.

You can check [Graduation requirement total column] that contain the numbers of units which are classified into many items. For example, it is General Education Courses or Specialized Courses, The number of units for the designated program or acquired. You can also check [Relevant requirement column for this time] and [GPA column].

You can review the In-depth information of yourself such as ID number, Name, Gender, Affiliation, Grade, Student state classification, Admission period, Admission date, fiscal year of the curriculum, and so on. You can also check Related information from right side menu.

When you click Refer to student record, you can check the in-depth information about yourself. Please review the previously described slide to refer the contents of student record.

Time zone that you can use the web services that have been introduced so far has been limited. It is up to midnight from 7:00 in the morning. If you try to access in the off hours, then the following message will be displayed, whether or not your access is from the inside or the outside of the university campus. If you get following message which is ´Refer to Web timetable is not provided in this time.´, please click Close button.

This Administration System page consists of the following elements: Hours Available for Use, Administration System, Reference Manual, and Notes. You can refer the manual such as Syllabus Registration, SCCP Enrollment, Grade Registration, Student Class Evaluation, Graduation Thesis Enrollment, Report for Decision of Career, and Registration application.

On the other hand, Course Planning System page consists of this Course Planning System feature, Hours Available for Use, Reference Manual, and Notes. Hours available for use is up to midnight from 8:00 in the morning.

While the Spring or Autumn semester, you can only use the feature of Courses Planning Simulation. If you want to use this feature, please click this button. Course Registration button will be available before each semester.

When you click the course planning simulation, you can ascertain your yearly status and plan. Acquired subject is displayed by blue, designed one is by white, and else is by grayed out. These have been categorized such as Specialized Education, English Language, General Education, and Teaching Courses.

Yes, there are interactive features. For example,you can reflect lecture cancellations and supplementary lecture in your timetable, you can also add your unique schedule, the result of class evalution reflect by your register evalution, course planning simulation is able to customize, and class BBS is of course interactive.

d) How would you improve the university's Intranet? What features are missing? Be critical!

At first, all of the intranet features should be available all day. I am in trouble in late at night when I can not review Web Registration Application, Student Record, and Courses Planning Simulation. Next, all of the features should be available, whether or not your access is from inside of the university or outside. In addition, I think that homework confirmation feature is missing. It is very useful if I can review the information about recent homework contents on timetable. At last, current grade information is missing. I want to know about exercise score, examination score, and status of attendance of all class. It is also useful that we can confirm our score from the link of our timetable.
