Fate brings Paola Pavese and Dr. Giulio Guidi together when the renowned cardiologist performs a successful operation on Paola’s mother. However, the handsome doctor provokes more than gratitude in the beautiful Paola, a busy wife and mother. They soon begin a passionate romance – even though Giulio is married and just termi-nating an affair with his assistant Laura. Adding to the pressure weighing on Giulio is his work on a suture device that ambitious attorney Salviati wants to bring out on the market as soon as possible. When Laura’s lifeless body is found on the grounds of Giulio’s country house, the doctor knows that his luck has left him.
His main problem now is the homicide inspector, who happens to be Paola’s husband and is fully aware of his wife’s affair with the cardiologist. Giulio’s jealous wife Benedetta, meanwhile, is unable to cope with the fact that Laura was pregnant and that her husband had begun another affair. She threatens to accuse Giulio of Laura‘s mur-der and to reveal another dark secret from his past. And she makes it clear to Salviati that she is no longer willing to financially support the research on the medical instrument with her family’s fortune. Paola pays Benedetta a visit to find out the truth about Giulio; shortly after she leaves, Benedetta dies of poisoning. No sooner is Paola jailed than Salviati – a bit too eagerly – assumes her defense. It is now up to Paola‘s husband to save her – but does he believe in her innocence?
