I was once told that in times of sadness and loss, do as Jesus did and serve others. So that's what we are pre-

paring to do, serve children by teaching them the love of

Jesus. Our 2016 summer mission trip is quickly ap-

proaching and we are gearing up for another great year.

Our current number attending is 13 students and 8

adults. We will be teaming up with Global Encounter in St

Louis this year hoping to blanket this lost city with the

love of Christ.

We recently finished our study on King David and will

spend the month of June training for mission work. We

will study our Bible stories, practice our songs and

crafts and prepare our hearts for the task before us. It

is a time of transition in our group as our many seniors

leave us and new, younger students join our group.

Please pray for our students as we prepare for our mis-

sion work but also as we mourn the loss of one of their

classmates. It is a difficult time and understanding God's plan can be confusing. Please pray for God to equip Bill

and I to answer difficult questions and provide a shoul-

der to cry on.

We love our church family and are grateful for the op-

portunity to serve the Lord in this church.

Many blessings, Tracy Shively & Bill Coleman

Spencer Family to Lead Worship

First Baptist Church will host the Spencer

Family during the morning worship service on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. They will lead the congregational music, as well as perform the special music. Jim Spen-cer will preach the message. A free-will offering will be taken.

The Spencers were in concert at FBC last

September. Jim writes some of the music they perform, and his daughter Grace also has begun writing music. Along with Grace, three of the Spencers’ oldest sons play mu-sical instruments in the family band. Their music CDs will be available on a donation basis in the lobby before and after the ser-vice. In addition to several previous albums and children’s scripture memory CDs, they will have a new album out titled The Psalm 103 Project.

Jim and his wife Nicci have been married 20

years. They have been blessed with 13 chil-dren ranging in age from 19 to two. Cur-rently based in South Central Kansas, he has served in the local church leading worship in music for many years. For the past year, the family has traveled from coast to coast with their music ministry.

Following the morning service, a Fellowship

meal will be served in the Fellowship Hall. The Activities Committee will provide BBQ and macaroni and cheese. You are asked to bring a side dish or a dessert.

Don’t miss this special worship service with

this gifted family. The public is invited.

Vacation Bible School This year we will try something a bit dif-ferent. Various scheduling conflicts and the fact that many of our volun-teers also work full-days during the summer led us to the idea of trying out a one-day vacation bible school.

This year’s theme is “Submerged- Find-ing Truth Below The Surface”. The kids will learn that Jesus sees, Jesus knows, and Jesus saves with the scrip-ture emphasis being Psalm 139:23-24:

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.

We invite kids from all over the commu-nity who are kindergarten eligible to go-ing into the 6th grade. A nursery will be available for workers’ children birth-prek if needed.

Please don’t let the idea of teaching multiple bible stories in one day frighten you away. We’d like to think of each classroom have a TEAM of teachers. One person can teach each bible story, or the stories can be delegated amongst the team. We trust that each team will modify the curriculum as the see appropriate and we are certainly here to help in any way.

The children will still experience mis-sions, crafts, and recreation rotations. We will need plenty of kitchen help to provide a light morning and afternoon snack, as well as lunch for all the kids.

If possible, we will provide transporta-

tion for pick-up to those who have specified through pre-registration, and drop-off as well.

On the sign-up sheet, we have plenty of opportunities for you to assist in this ministry, from classroom team mem-bers to worship, kitchen, drivers, deco-rating, and registration. If you cannot make it the entire day, but hope to help out during the times you are available, we would love to have you.

Please begin considering NOW how the Lord might use you. We will plan a worker’s meeting for the beginning of June and in the mean time, if you have questions/comments, please see Melis-sa, Beth, or Megan. You will find sign-ups and other VBS information on the bulletin board outside of the fellowship hall.
