My dear parishioners, Beginning on Sunday, January 27th, after the 9am Mass, we will begin our carpet project at St. Patrick Church in Amboy. My sincere thanks to all those who have generously signed up to volunteer to move pews and/or install new underlayment! We are still in need of many volunteers to complete this project, especially volunteers to help move the pews back to their origi-nal places on Friday evening (5pm) and Saturday morning (9am). Again, if you are able and willing to help, please sign up (name and phone number) on the clipboards in the back of St. Patrick Church. To coordinate the help of volunteers, we need to know who plans on being here and when. During the time our carpet is being replaced, I will be away from the parish for the annual diocesan clergy conference as well as for some vaca-tion time. Please keep me in your prayers while I am away. And please pray for the success of our carpet project, through the intercession of St. Joseph. Be assured of my prayers for all of you as well over the next couple weeks.
In connection with this Sunday’s Gospel reading (Lk 1:1-4; 4:14-21), I share with you the following words taken from a homily by Origen of Alexandria (an ancient Christian writer): “‘Every eye in the synagogue was fixed upon him.’ Here too in this synagogue that is in this present assembly, you can at this very moment fix your eyes upon your Savior if you wish. Whenever you direct your inward gaze toward wisdom and truth and the contemplation of God’s only Son, then your eyes are fixed upon Jesus. Blessed was that congregation of which the gospel says, ‘All eyes in the synagogue were fixed upon him!’ How I long for our own assembly to deserve the same testimony; for all of you, catechumens as well as the faithful, men, women, children, to have your eyes, not those of the body but of the soul, turned toward Jesus! When you look at Jesus your own faces will become radiant with his reflected glory.”

FEBRUARY IS CATHOLIC PRESS MONTH
The Observer is our Catholic Newspaper. Our parishes
are on the “Golden Plan” which means that the parish
pays for every registered household to receive a sub-
scription to the Observer. Renew your subscription with
the envelope you received in the mail or pick up an enve-
lope in the back of Church.
If you are able to pay for your own subscription it saves the
parish some money and is greatly appreciated. Also, if you do
not read the Observer please call them to cancel your subscrip-
tion as that will also save the parish money.
