THE INTERVIEWER Get That Interview! In today’s economic times it is hard to even get past the application process onto the interview. The first step in any job search is to have a complete and current resume. Make sure that you list only the jobs that you have held that will help you get the job. In other words, please do not fill your resume up with irrelevant jobs. For example, it is important to only list the training that you could bring to this specific job. Tweak every application, resume and cover letter to make it specific for the job you are applying for. What does all this mean? It means that if you have worked in retail off and on and also as a chef, you would only use similar jobs to what you are applying for on your resume. If you were applying to be a chef then use only those jobs. If you are applying to work in a store, then use your retail jobs on your resume. If you use all different kinds of jobs you will look like you have trouble following through and sticking with a specific field. If you do not have any job experience it is wise to start by volunteering somewhere that looks interesting to you. Volunteer experience looks great on a resume. Attention Open Door family! We

are in need of volunteers to cook

the Friday meal at Open Door.

Open Door has gone through many

changes this past year. One of those

is that Steve Manesis no longer has

the time to cook. We would like to

have two or three volunteers to do

the cooking. Everyone should be

responsible for clean up after the

meal. If someone asks you to clean

up after yourself and you do not,

you will not be allowed to eat or

drink anything here at Open Door

until you do. It is time to take a

stand and take care of our lovely

new Open Door atmosphere! This

will take all of us working

together! Make sure that each of us

respects the space by cleaning it. It

will take all of us working together

to take pride in our home away

from home.

Guest Speakers at 2014 Conference: Two

of Our Own! September 16th & 17th was the Oregon Supported Employment Center

for Excellence yearly conference. The two-day conference is attended by

Supported Employment Specialists, Vocational Rehabilitation

counselors, Peer Specialists, Supervisors and Supported Employment

participants. This year, two of our very own were asked to speak about

their experiences. Robert Hazen is an excellent example of someone who

has excelled at getting and keeping a job. It was not easy but with

persistence and putting all he has into his job search, he was successful.

Nick Benas worked personally with Robert and they just kept pounding

the pavement. Steve Manesis, our Peer Counselor and housing specialist

here at CBH, was also asked to tell his story. We were honored to be part

of the same team as Steve and Robert.

When Robert finished telling his story he received a standing ovation

from the audience. The next day members of the audience were still

coming up to Robert to shake his hand. Now Robert has been asked to

speak to the State Senate. Wow is all I can say! It was an honor to go to

this conference with our CBH team! Memories were made and good

times had by all!

Hello! I am Lyn Mikesell, your new Supported Employment Specialist. I will be

working alongside Katherine at Open Door helping Clatsop Behavioral Healthcare

clients to find jobs. I am excited to join the CBH team and look forward to getting

to know my clients and those who come to Open Door.

I lived in the Astoria area for 13 years from 1993 to 2006. I then moved to Seattle,

where I lived for about 8 years before returning here to Astoria. I am very happy to

be back on the north Oregon coast and it already feels like I never left.

I have worked for what is now Pacific NW Works and at Tongue Point Job Corps

helping people to find good jobs. This is a line of work that I am enthusiastic about

and I am really looking forward to meeting with employers in the area and working

with the other wonderful staff at Open Door to help CBH clients meet their goals

and realize their dreams. Call (503)325-0241 ext. 229 or email at
